Hi folks,

I recently reinstalled RTW before uninstalling the old driver that came with the Nvidia card I bought (version 55.something). I completely uninstalled the old Nvidia driver I had and did a clean install of the 66.93 Nvidia drivers.

I've noticed that once you choose the prologue and historical battles, that the screen turns black for a few seconds and then goes back to normal before the prologue or the historical battles start.

Stupid question: Should I have done this clean install the way I did? OR can I just "overpatch" the older driver with the newer one?

By the way, Nvidia's newest driver is 77. something!

Another thing, Shogun Total War won't work on my system, even though it installs o.k. and it uninstalls o.k.? My brother told me to update my cd-rom's firmware, which I did yesterday. Should I have done this? and should i update to the newest 77.something Nvidia drivers?

Thank you all, Grecian Warrior

I run an nVidia with a 66.something. It used to be 66.93 but RTW didn't like that,. The latest drivers don't work very well with RTW. The graphics started lagging, the mountains started flickering, Mysterious dark spots started flitting across the campaign map, the grass on battle maps started rippling with dark waves like some awful Ahriman-legion invasion, and eventually the game either hung, crashed back to desktop or degenerated into a kaleidoscopic burst of incoherent colour that bears some vague resemblance to Mediolanum or Patavium and hey isn't that Tribus Getae? With the latest drivers it took all my efforts and prayers to make the damned thing work on medium scale. Now I can play huge scale 20-on-20 full-stack battles without a hitch after I installed an older version.

I kid you not. Install an older version. It works better than the new. Keep backtracking chronologically through nVidia's online driver catalogue until you find one that works. But don't get the latest ones. RTW runs way smoother on the older ones.

Hey Man,

Where do I find the Nvidia online driver catalog?

Which one works best for RTW and Shogun Total war?

Thanks
