Hi fellow STW-players,

I finally got my STW back to work, and I promised Sword dojo to post an intresting thread, so here it is. ~:)

This thread is meant for posting reports of batlles in historical campaigns, so I want lots of people to try them out if they haven't already.

I'll report my own battles too, maybe an expert can give me some tips, maybe a beginner can learn something from me?

I hope this thread will provide all intrested players enough tips to complete all the challenges that are in the historical campaigns, enjoy!

I want to inlcude sceenshots, but I don't know how to.

How do you make them, and how do you post them??

To post screenies or any kind of picture, first you have to host them somewhere on the internet. www.photobucket.com provides free image hosting service.

Game screenies are big, both in dimension and file size, in their native form. If used without modification they will distort the layout of threads in here, so it's good to resize them before posting. I use Microsoft Paint (which comes with Windows) to do this. To take a screenie, I use ALT+Printscreen to capture the image to the clipboard. Then I paste it into a new picture in Paint. I then use the "Stretch/Skew" function in Paint to shrink the picture (setting the percentage for height and width to less than 100%, trying different numbers until the result is small but still good enough to make the point I want to make with the picture). I then save the file as a .jpg file, which is much smaller in file size than the default .bmp (.bmps are too big for internet use generally as they take way too long to load in a browser).

After I have the image resized, I upload it to my photobucket account. When you do, you will see it's link underneath it. I copy the link information, then start a post here. In the post, I put the hyperlink addy between and tags and the picture appears in the post. I preview the post before committing it to the board to make sure everything is correct.

I use ctrl+shift+PrintScrn but anyway...after you take the screen shot open paint and press ctrl+V. That will paste your shot in the window. Crop it accordingly then save it as a jpeg. I usually save as a .bmp and then open it in Photoshop for touch-up.

drisos m8,

the default key for taking sreenies in STW is F2.
Every time you press F2 one Screenshot will be placed under
Shogun/Tgas/ in .tga format, in the dimension of your screen (1024*768).

Another way is to use the clipboard function of windows. Any time you copy something with ctrl+c you copy it to the clipboard, a virtual space. To use the clipboard to take screenies I press "Printscreen" on the Keyboard. However this may vary as you can read above. When pressing "Prntscrn" the whole image on the monitor is copied to the clipboard. You now have to paste (ctrl+v) it into a graphic application such as paint. Try it while looking at your desktop to see if it works.

How do I get a .tga file in paint? So I can make it a bit smaller, so it fits in a thread here.

thanks for helping me out, r'as!

You don't. ~D
paint is actually crap. It doesn't support tga's.
You need to use a different program. IrfanView (http://www.irfanview.com/) for example is capable
of reading tga's. You can then edit them (to a certain extend) and save them as .jpg's.
It's freeware.
