Aaargh.. Battles in Sweden = CTD

This is odd! Just seems to have happened as the game progressed. I fought once in Sweden but now every time I try to engage the Norwegiens, the game CTD during the loading process for the 3d battle. This only happens in Sweden. I have vikings installed and the XL mod. Any thoughts??? Is there a file I should keep thats tracks my campaign history in case I need to reinstall the game????

There is a very good chance it has nothing to do with Sweden.

There is a fairly well known problem with the lastest version of Direct X (9 point something I think) not working well with the latest Nvidia drivers.

Myself, and others have had succes in rolling back the nvidia drivers to an earlier version.

If you have Nvidia graphics, that would be the first thing to try.

(the problem - CTD - manifest when making transitions to (and sometimes from) the combat screens - personally I think it has to do with the litle "zoom" effect they put in - just MHO).

Good luck - there are several threads about it here in the forums. check out the apothecary for lots of info about CTD and other problems.

Thanks for that! I use an ATI 9800 pro, not NVidia. I'll have a look in the apothecary like you say. I wonder if its something to do with the size of the armies. I had two big armies prior to the battle. :book:

I have RADEON 9600 series (I hope I found the right hardware name :wink:) but yesterday I got CTDs all the time. I guess something must be buggy with savegames. I played multiple battles in one turn and after the second one it CTDs. Whatever I did reloading my battle save or reloading autosave or quicksave it crashed. I went back to a (very very lucky) only one turn early normal save and tried to do different things - and it was okay.

Most of my savegames work great, but every once in a while one of them seems to get corrupted for some reason and just CTD's whenever I try to load it. Doesn't happen very often and I can't determine the reason for it. The main crash problem I have now is a tendency to CTD when I hit escape to save. Usually I just do a ctrl-S save just before so it's not a big problem.
