I think that RTR 6.0 modders have modified the game too much. As I know from the preview pics of the new mod, there have been too many radical changes to the Roman Troop so that they are no longer realistic and historical at all!. I have never heard about round shield Legionaries. The legionaries especially during the imperial age had square shields and they wore the "lorica segmentata". In RTR 6.0 these units are no longer existent and I think that Romans are no longer recognisable! They almost look like modified Greek units!! In additon Praetorians have never fought in the Roman Army and even the Senate didn't use them in battles. Praetorians were inveted by Augustus the first Emperor as a sort of Emperor bodyguards and they only lived and stayed in Rome to protect the Emperor. They never fought a war and they never left Rome except when the Emperor decided to travel throughout the Empire!! ~ :duel:

Firstly, the legionaries in RTR are late Republic (hastati, principes, triarii), and early Imperial (oblong shield ones), so it's completing historically correct. As for the praetorians, unless you havent noticed, they're in the vanilla RTW anyway, so RTR DIDNT add them, so they cant be blamed.

Please check your historical sources before flaming a mod...RTR has a number of professional historians (ie, those that study history in real life)...it's true that imperial legionaries had oblong shields, but the republic ones DID NOT.

agree with every word ! btw praetorians were before augustus , he was the first to change their functions in 2 bce , the praetorians were the legatus legiones (that is the commander of a legion) bodyguard or elite fighters and yes they fought outside rome many times before 2 bce and after ! one should look carefully in the books (one example - domitianus took them aganist the dacians in 86 ce or so)

I have never heard about round shield Legionaries. The legionaries especially during the imperial age had square shields and they wore the "lorica segmentata".The rectangular shields were not adopted until after 1 BCE. The lorica segmentata barely existed before that date, and Roman legionaries were overwhelmingly equipped with lorica hamata at that point. RTR ends in 1 BCE.

In RTR 6.0 these units are no longer existent and I think that Romans are no longer recognisable! They almost look like modified Greek units!!The Romans are not recognizable because most people's knowledge of Romans comes from stereotypical Hollywood sources that reflect a limited period in history, which RTR does not cover (as RTW doesn't).

In additon Praetorians have never fought in the Roman Army and even the Senate didn't use them in battles. Praetorians were inveted by Augustus the first Emperor as a sort of Emperor bodyguards and they only lived and stayed in Rome to protect the Emperor. They were a vanilla unit, and they've been removed for 6.0.

I would really apologize to all of you for my unpolite way of expressing my opinions. I only had a bad day and I was a bit depressed so I deliberately attacked the RTR 6.0 which has no blame!
As praetorians I misred that RTR 6.0 had reintroduced them in the game, so I am also sorry for that!! Anyway I Know that the early legionares hadn't a rectangular shield and they were never used during Republican age. But I am not sure that the rapresentation of the early legionaries made by RTR 6.0 is correct. It seems that they have been a bit influenced by the Greek units! These Romans looks a bit like Greek Oplites with a longer and bigger shield!

Anyway it's only my opinion, I rather prefered the Imperial legionaries with lorica segmentata and rectangular shields. ~:) :balloon2:
