Today am I going to watch some of the film “Asterix and Obelix meets Ceasar”, wich suddenly became more interesting after I`ve played RTW.

But the story, how real is it , except from the magic drink and such?
Was there a gallic city who was very difficult for the romans to conquer, or is it all just invented to make a good film?

Well, I haven't heard of any new film, but surely you know the French comic strip "Asterix the Gaul" (over 30 albums) by Albert Uderzo and Rene Goscinny? All movies about Asterix and Obelix are based on that. Goscinny (died 1977) who wrote most of the scenarios for the albums, used as his main historical base Caesar's "De Bello Gallico", so the comic has some real-life characters in it (Mainly Gaius Julius Caesar, but also Cleopatra, Brutus, Vercingetorix, Cassivelaunos, etc.) and based on the real Roman empire around 50 BC. All the other stuff and characters, however, are made up (although someone probably will claim it's true ~D ) and are just fun. It is really good and if you've never read it, you certainly should.

i believe some of it was baised on the gauls prolonged defiance to roman invasion of Julius Ceaser . Under Vercingetorix the Gaul leader whos tribes mounted a dew shock defeats on Ceasers legions in 53 bc.

Indeed, but that's all to be found in Caesar's "De Bello Gallico" ("On the Gallic War").

It`s no new film, It`s a french, german and italian co-production from 1999.
Going to watch it on TV.

I`ve read alot of these cartoons, and they are very fun! :book: ~D

All right, I was already very much shocked someone could have missed such an important part of Western culture... :dizzy2: ~D

Edit: That film I actually saw. Quite nice though not as good a the comics, of course. Gerard Depardieu is actually quite a good Obelix. ~:)

Well, the first movie isn't that great. The one with Cleopatra is much funnier IMO.
