In the descr_regions.txt file, the following excerpt can be found.

; region tag
; settlement tag
; default culture tag
; map RGB value
; comma-seperated resource list
; triumph point value
; base farm level
;

Britannia_Inferior
Eburacum
britons
Brigantes
232 41 198
lead, dogs, pigs
5
5

Tribus_Saxones
Bordesholm
germans
Saxones
232 41 55
timber, amber, dogs, pigs
5
3

I've highlighted the default culture tag. Is this just the faction name? Is it tied to the actual culture (i.e. barbarian, roman, egypt, eastern, etc.). Is there a certain list that you are restricted to here?

Any help is appreciated.

it is a faction name. It is not a 'culture' name.

So is it the faction name as listed in the descr_strat.txt file?

Basically, if I plan to rename factions, I would change strat.txt, shared.txt, and expanded.txt, while leaving the faction names in descr.txt unchanged.

So that means that if I change the romans_julii references in strat/shared/extended to Kings of Leon, descr_strat.txt would remain the same and descr_region.txt would use romans_julii as the reference for Kings of Leon?

As a general rule, you must change the faction name only in the files contained in Data\text (this is the translation for the interface). All the other files must keep the original faction name.

region names are in data/text/imperial_campaign_regions_and_settlement_names.txt

Don't change the bracketed names, only the ones on the right (these are what the game displays, the others are what it uses to build the map).
