Alpha channel?
I just have the image on a clear background and save as .tga. I don't think you need to do an alpha.

If you do that it shows the background
You need and Alpha channel to make the background transparent on the UI
Anyone using Paint shop Pro 8 for Unitcards or buildings?

First off, I don't know diddly about PSP .... I use Photoshop... but I DO know how to make an alpha channel!
It sounds to me as though you do not have one. This can be either due to the creation side of the process, or through saving the file as a lower definition 16bit file. I have also noted with Photoshop that when you save there is a checkbox to exclude alpha channel. I didn't spot this initially when I tried making alpha's ...it just seemed so odd to me to have to UNCHECK an option to make somehting work!
If you want to send me a sample of your unit card, I can have a look and see if it has an active alpha channel.

Drop me a PM whenever you are ready if you need me to have a look at it.... if you don't get a reply for a few days, it will be because I am out of town on business most of next week. I will look for it when I get back.
Meantime...try this:

You can ignore the fancy messing around with the backgrounds and such like when making a unit card, but it is basically showing you the essentials.
They remove the background when they are finished...you actually won't need to. When you put your unit card in game, anything 'black' in the alpha layer will be invisible, so it doesn't matter what colour it is ;)
