I played it for a while, but space really isn't my thing so I moved on to EQ2.

Saying that it is a huge, well established game and if you like this kind of thing you should definately give it a go, at least the free trial.

The universe is split into solar systems some of which are PVP enabled and some are protected. You can have up to 4 chars (I think) and it is based on skill training rather than levels, the good thing is that the training continues even if you are off line. There is a weel established mail and market sytem where you can place buy or sell orders and they will be filled by other players irrespective of whether you are online or not. There is mining and crafting of everything from ships to ammo and you can have as many ships as you can afford and store them wherever you want.

It is also possible now for corps to own there own space stations and dominate whole star systems.

The bad side is that you sometimes have to pass through choke points which are invariably camped by 12 year old geeks who promptly blow up your 40mill isd ship and steal all your cargo, but this is just part of PVP and I would imagine happens in every game.

My old corp is called infinity enterprises and I'm sure some of them will show you about if you ask, if you want someone to contact send me a PM.

One thing I absolutely hated about Eve was the damn skill training. Skill training is real time, so if you want to imrpove your firing skill you wait spend hours upon hours waiting for it to improve. It is a very, very slow MMO. There were people telling me that at some points when a skill becomes high enough, it takes weeks and even months in order to improve it one point. That is one of the main reasons I left. I need instant gratification and I'm not going to wait a week to improve my mining skill one point.

Skill training is real time, only one of your 3 characters can train at a time. It is a slow paced game for the most part.

Now for the good news which balances the game for those who cannot play 24/7.

The character continues to train when you are offline.

There is plenty of variety, mining, combat, trading etc and it feels more like a world then a series of spawn points.

LOL In addition, ask Divinus Arma. He has a thread at the Entrance Hall. ~D

I've been looking at EVE for a long while. When I get my PC upgrade sorted in the next fortnight I plan on having a go at the free trial. I'll let you know how I get on ~:)

it's been a long time since I played a space trading game. Last one I played was the one and only Elite, an all time classic if ever there was one ~

I have to say it has THE best character creation screen ever. I've spend more time tweaking my character's face for that perfect portrait then playing the game itself.

Yes I pick female characters just so I can have some nice eye candy on the screen...

Most MMORPG's have a monthly charge of around $15 or £12ish, if you pay monthly it's not a major hardship if you're working. If you own you're own home you'll find that this is one of the minor bills you have to pay.
