I've installed the new realism mod (5.41) but when i try to start the game it just crashes to desktop. I never reach the meny, it crashes during the loadingscreen.

I have made sure i have a clean RTW with patch 1.2 installed. I made a backup of the data folder before install, and i installed in correct order (first 5.2 then 5.3 then 5.4 then 5.41).

I deleted the new data folder, made a new backup of the old one and tried again (I tried running the original in between, and it worked just fine.), this time i only installed version 5.2 and tried to start the game...
Same thing!

First there's the advertisement video, then comes the long introvideo after this when the loadingscreen comes (with the bar increasing from left to right)
it goes to maybe 10 or 15% then it just clicks and i'm back in windows.

Any ideas? I have none, i've reread the readme's real closely and from what i can tell i'm doing everything by the letter?

I have checked for the map.rwm in the Data\world\maps\campaign\rome_total_realism folder, no such file there...

I'm not sure. These things happen from time to time. First, I'd try using the -nm and -show_err command line switches—the first to see if it fixes it (unlikely, I suspect, but maybe possible), the second to see if it tells you what's wrong. Create a shortcut to RomeTW.exe, then right-click on it and select Properties. In the Target field, go to the very end, after the quotation mark, and add a space followed by -nm -show_err. The line should now read something like:

"C:\Program Files\Activision\Rome - Total War\RomeTW.exe" -nm -show_errSee what that does, if anything.

Many thanks! It works. :charge:

Well, i haven't tested to actually start a game yet but atleast it didn't crash during load as before. I'll try starting a game later... much appriciated.

Seems that "-nm" solves the problem. I've started a campaign now, played maybe ten rounds and it works perfectly.

After that i tried to start the game from the normal shortcut and i got the usual crash on the loadingscreen, but clicking on the other, altered, shortcut works good.

"-show_err" is pretty selfexplanatory, but what is the "-nm"? "no m...", "no movies"! Can that be it? When i think about it, the intromovie doesn't show when starting from this shortcut.

Either way, thanks again. Now i'm off to play some more, many of the changes seems very interesting and i'm looking forward to test them out.
