View Full Version : Jedi or Sith?

Which would you be?

I'd be a jedi. I don't think I would like to be evil, especially if it means
chopping up little jedi kids like Anakin does in Ep3

Plus you get to lead clone troopers, even if they do
shoot you in the back

Which path do you guys take?

Jedi forever. I'd be a Guardian of peace and Justice, and a shining beacon of light. Being the good guy is just the best.

May the Force be with you!

You know, it makes me sad, sometimes, that I can't be a Jedi. Really sad...

Neither as they are two flawed parts of a greater whole.

Can't get married? Hmmm denial of love and human emotions? Forsaking the best in each other for a monastic life style is so much in denial.

They remind me of the two species in the dark crystal that need to be reunited to form the greater being.

Sith cause then I can learn force scream, insanity, and force lightning. Plus I can choke fools who fail me from across the room, always good as it means I don't have to leave my throne. That way I can be nice and rested for when one of my pupils gets uppity and challenges me.

My sith name would be, Dominus Machina Mortis.

Sith definately. The bad guys always seem to have more fun until the very end.

I would trade 115 minutes of fun for 5 minutes of getting chopped up with a lightsaber.

Bad, but in a good way. Couldn't go through life as a Boy Scout from outer space, but I have no real desire to rule the universe so that I can impose my will upon others.

I was thinking about making this poll last night. Then, I was tired and thought I'd leave it to the morning. ~D

Anyway, I'd go Sith. You are more likely to win. Especially after Ep 3, there are only 2 Jedi's left. Plus, you get a red lightsaber, which is always cooler than blue, green or purple. Also, you can kill your enemies and not get condemned for it. In fact, you get praise for killing.

Kraxis
05-31-2005, 14:04
GAH!!!

I think I would be a Jedi.

I wouldn't want to let my emotions rule my life, and I wouldn't want to go about and kill everyone I just didn't like of who did something wrong. And killing kids who looked up to you is even worse.

At the same time I wouldn't want to be a 'holier than thou' Jedi that couldn't be allowed to have a relationship with somebody else. But then again as a Sith I wouldn't be able to have that relationship, either because my lover would be afraid of me or because I wouldn't dare to have someone that close to me (what if she killed me in my sleep?).

And being both or none is impossible...

I choose to not be a jedi or sith, and just live my life out as a normal person with really good reflexes.

Neither, they are both to extreem, too juxtaposed. Reality has a lot more gray, there is no such thing as pure good or pure evil, both are subjective.

Grey...

Light side is too zealous about denying their own emotions. They claim to have all the knowledge in the world when in fact they only come off arrogant. Instead of seeking comfort in their emotion they would shut the door on it; Denying the existence of death as well.

Dark Side takes everything to extremes. They embrace hate and anger, in the hopes it makes them stronger. what they fail to realise is they lose their soul in the process. Their identity disappearing in a red haze of misguided hate that has no direction. They would have you walk the path of the force in ignorance to the light side, twisting their words to better suite their own agenda (light side does this as well)

A Grey Jedi has no set code. Instead living their life as they see fit, helping those they can but in no way claiming they know everything (light side). They do not let their anger take control of themselves (dark side) but they do not deny it is there. Instead of walking the path of ignorance or arrogance, they seek their own destiny.

Jedi. Fair play and all, wot?

As for Jedi not being able to get jiggy, etc.: In episode II Anakin explains to Padme that it is attachment that is forbidden to a Jedi. Forbidding Jedi to marry is probably a way to ensure that Jedi remain compassionate towards all instead of directing their actions towards the preservation and advancement of their own family.

Imagine a samurai/Buddhist attitude towards life and personal relationships combined with a Catholic priest's denial of marriage so he can serve all. Celibacy is never mentioned as a Jedi requirement, as far as I know.

Hey, maybe the Jedi are Tantric love machines that don't form long-term pair bonds. ~D

Oh, by the way, being a Sith wouldn't be so great. Sure, you get cool force powers and all, but there are only ever two Siths: a master and an apprentice. If you're the master, you know that your apprentice is plotting to kill you in your sleep and become the master. If you're the apprentice, you know that your master is looking for a better apprentice to chop your head off.

Too much stress.

Nope. Books and even video games (well just the KOTORs) are just as important if not more so than the movie. I enjoy a lot of the books more, anyway...
Lucas is not all powerful, he just started it. A lot of other people have added a lot more, and they are just as important.

He got recruited after Maul's death. He was a Jedi, and had already left the Order by that time, but he wasn't a dark siders untill Sidious recruited him.
However, he was never really truly on the Dark side I believe... He never had the yellow eyes, which show the total corruption of a Sith to the dark side, and he truly believed that the Senate and the Jedi were corrupt, from what I understand. He was certaintly a Dark Jedi, but possibely not a true Sith.

Yes, it does seem as if he had an ulterior motive, and that he believed he knew the right way. As a true Sith he 'only' used Palpatine to further his own agenda. Just like Palpatine only used him for as long as it would take to convert Anakin.

If im not wrong all Dark Jedi are not Sith.

Even before the Jedi fought the Sith for the first time, Dark Jedi's went Rogue i think.

Since im to free-spirited and self-centered in many ways, I could never be a Jedi. My guess is that I would start out as a Jedi (very powerfull ofcourse ~;) ) and then go Rogue and become a Dark Jedi, roaming freely, but I would not bend my life on political power like the Sith.

I'd be a gray Jedi, much like Luke Skywalker. One of the problems with the Light and Darksides was it promoted death and mistrust. Originally Jedi learnt both the light and the dark. Then they split in two and all hell broke loose.

True.

I think I wouldn't mind being a Jedi under Luke Skywalker's Academy as much as the original Jedi Temple. His rules are obviously more lax, you graduate faster, you don't have to start out at younger than 2, and since he's married, he can't prevent his Jedi from romatic involments, etiher. ~;)

I just saw Episode III, and I hate to say it but I was disappointed. Not as much as by Episodes I & II, but still... I guess when I was a kid, I never realized how utterly simplistic Lucasworld morality is. There's no nuance, no shades of gray. It's a world of bipolar opposites, screaming for some Lithium.

Anyway, if I had to be one, it'd be Jedi, but I'm not too fond of them. Very arrogant, very smug, not much respect for the Republic they claim to serve.

Crazed Rabbit
06-09-2005, 05:48
I guess I didn't notice the morality, or the amount of respect the Jedi had for the Republic (though it was clear they thought it needed fixing), as much as the lightsabers. What makes you say that? Just wondering.

And Steppe Merc, since you seem to be an expert on star wars books, what ones would you recommend for reading?

What era do you want? There are a whole bunch... There's a bunch right before the latest movies, theres ones a few years after Jedi, and some 20 years later.

I really like Timothy Zahn's Heir to the Empire trilogy. It takes place 5 years after Jedi.
Also the New Jedi Order is quite good, but it's a whole bunch of books in it. It takes place 20 years after Jedi, when an alien race from another galaxy invades, and kicks both the Empire and the Republic's ass. The first is by RA Salvatore, called Vector Prime. Its a bit sad, cause a character I really like dies... :embarassed:
Have you read any before? What sort of stories do you like? What characters do you like? I got almost all of em, so it's a bit hard to just pinpoint one book. ~D

SITH! And if you are General Greivous you can get 4 lightsabers at once.
He's not a Sith. He was just a normal dude, but he got in a crash, and he got rebuilt with droid parts. Those droid parts allow him to fight Jedi and he was trained by Dooku, but he can't use the Force.

As Steppe Merc said, get the Thrawn trilogy-it's really rather excellent, and extremely Star-Warsy. I also really like the X-Wing series, which are interesting because they take a minor character from the films (Wedge Antilles) and expand his back story massively. He's also the only character from the films who has a major role. The space combat is described exceedingly well too, and the later books in the series, by Aaron Allston, are very funny as well.

Shadows of the Empire is great too-it's set betwenn Empire and Jedi, and takes a looks at Black Sun, the major Star Wars organised crime syndicate.

The problem with Star Wars books is the sheer volume of dangerous situations/firefights/space battles that all the main characters (Luke, Leia, Han, etc) are involved in. It almost gets silly. I am actually glad that they finally started killing off characters in the New Jedi Order series.
But yes, the X-Wing series is decent, even though I don't particularly like all facets of Stackpole's writing. The Zahn trilogy is also pretty good.
