I'm still playing, although that's mainly to do that most of my other games don't work any more on my computer, including RTW

Heck yeah. I play MTW almost everyday thx to the great BKB mod, XL mod, and the Samuri Wars mod, and HTW, and lastly but not least NTW. I never ever get bored with that game.

I play MTW at least once a month, but I played it so much before RTW came out that it is not as fresh as RTR is at the moment. At some point I may play RTR/RTW once a month and MTW almost every day, but for now I need to play with the new units and such.

I play it almost every day. Of course, I've only had it for a couple weeks or so...

I give MTW a go every now and again, although I struggle to keep playing the campaign for long periods. I actually have about 6 campaigns going that I play for a few turns at a time, and then I return to RTW in the vain attempt to make it playable.

I still play MTW for three years ago and don't diserve it. Like STW too but have no special feeling for RTW  Just some "extra" with TOAW ~

I have STW:WE, VI and RTW, and I play all three.
I still play Medieval for at least several hours every week. I fire up Shogun now and then, and Rome almost not at all anymore. Rome is visually stunning, yes, but the gameplay is much stronger in the other two games.
I mainly play and MOD MTW, the replay value is much better.

Sadly STW WE refuses to run on my comp no matter what I do. I used to love it almost on par with MTW VI.
I only had a brief affair with RTW and the lack of challenge in that game puts me off.
I haven't played MTW for a long time but no doubt I will sink my fangs into tender flesh of ZX mode by Zarax tomorrow (a week off starting Monday).
No other game in known history has so much replayability I dare say.
I would, but lately MTW keeps crashing on me. Something to do with graphic drivers or something.

In a few minutes, I'll start a danish campaign.
Yep. I still play MTW. just played a campaign as the Russians a few days ago.
I have STW (+MI), MTW (+VI) and RTW. I only still play MTW/VI. STW feels a bit old now and the campaign map is not very complex, but has a great atmosphere and is the classic game that introduced me to these games. RTW is disappointing and I don't play it. I dislike the campaign map and overall design, and the battles, despite the eye candy graphics, are two easy and fast.
I'm currently playing as the German/HRE, Early period, Expert level and control most of western europe. MTW still does it for me, though despite owning the game as soon as it was released here (same with shogun), I possibly haven't played as much as some other people due to time constraints (job/wife/family etc).
Mostly playing STW for VI mod in campaign mode, VI online

I still play MTW and have dropped RTW for the time being, at least until EB and RTR 6.0 come along.

I'm very active in MTW/VI play both in MP and SP, just cant get bored of it! I occasionaly try RTW, but a lack of presence from my friends and clanmates in RTW drive me back to MTW/VI. The same goes from my clan most are still in MTW/VI. Happy Hunting!

I have been playing MTW since Christmas and absolutely love it. I have been honing my battle skills on quick and historical campaign battles and campaign skills playing the campaign on easy and auto resolve. After conquering europe a couple of times, I have started a campaign as the english on hard and fighting out the battles myself. After a cock up in Wales, I have just stuffed the King of France's army - killing him into the bargin - in Aquitaine with an army of 4 units of hobilars and a unit of peasants - the sight of about 120 hobilars trying to kill the King of France who was the last man standing was a sight to live with me for a long time :charge: - I love this game and see me playing it for a very long time. ~

heck yeah !
Actually, I'm getting back to it. I haven't played in a while, but that's definitely NOT because of RTW. Like other people above have said, I don't find it challenging or interesting enough, and the atmosphere and gameplay are much better in both STW and MTW. And I very much prefer the battles as they are in MTW, I was utterly disappointed in the battles in RTW...
So yes, I'm thinking of starting a campaign with the English or Sicilians... :charge:

Still trying to complete my actual campaign with the HRE. The Golden Horde is here since about 3-4 turns (and there are many, realy realy many of them :hide:) - somehow i forgot about the 1230-thingy and did not made any preparations.
Ducking in the woods with my spears an AP infantry while mongol heavy cav-reinforcements keep pooring in - it's still fun !
Where on the web site, exactly, does one go to download any of these famous mod games? I've been playing vanilla MTW-VI & loving it, but Im' ready for something new...

Hi Obadiah
If you want to try the Samurai Wars for MTW/VI mod look in the signature of any post by Puzz3D.
This is a Shogun mod for MTW/VI
There are also a few posts on this mod in The Jousting Fields.

Thanks! I haven't been around for awhile.
Actually, I was wondering more generically. I know there's ton's of mods out there for MTW; are they kept in one place on this server? I took a tour around last night and couldn't find them. Am I brain dead, or are they scattered hither and yon?

Go to: The Guild--> Medieval TotalWar--> MTW Modification--> The Engineers Guild.
The various major MTW mods are listed and can be downloaded from there.

Yes, I still play MTW. I play RTW a lot too, although have slowed down a bit recently, and the MTW:VI CD is almost permanently in my drive. The gameplay mechanics are infinitely more satisfying than Rome's, the only problem which Rome fixed (as well as making a lot of things worse) was the issue of the distance units travel per turn (getting from one end of Kazar to the other takes as long as crossing Milan???)
Oh, and MTW MP >>> RTW MP

One thing you must remember is that each turn lasts a whole year, and in a year you can do a lot of marching.
I've been playing MTW since the day it came out. I go play other games now and then, I really enjoy Kohan2, but nothing else is as good as MTW. I just finished a Teutonic Order game starting in Late using the XL mod and I am in the middle of playing Portugal on High. I still play a few days a week. I was, like most here, really disappointed with RTW and was also let down by Cossacks 2, Imperial Glory and all the other strategy games that have come out since MTW. I will be trying the Shogun mod for VI next I think.
If you want to try a quick and refreshing MOD just click on the link in my sig...
It's nothing like XL or BKB but it is fast to download, fast to install and change the gameplay mechanics quite a lot...
Have fun :)
I've been on TW hiatus for a couple of months now (just been too busy), but when things calm down I'm going back to Medieval. Don't really have an interest in playing Rome anymore.

I am currently modding PMTW closing towards the next release... I am going to try some mods I wasn't able to test soon, though.
Anyway I haven't played ordinary, 'vanilla' MTW VI for at least 2 years.

I think rome total war is better, well that was until i downloaded the xl mod. Since i got the xl mod i havent played any other games, and with the 30+ factions it never gets boring and it rules ~ ~ ~
Well, i think we'll have to wait for RTW expansion before judging it... Even MTW reached its peak only after VI...
If you watch how many people are visiting this forum vs the RTW forum you will notice that MTW is becoming almost as popular as RTW. This must seem pretty weird to CA but is a good indication to them that they did something right in MTW that they missed in RTW.

Hey guys,
I'm a relatively new convert to the Total War series having just finished playing Rome: Total War and just this week I purchased Medieval Total War with the Viking Invasion expansion pack. I was interested in MTW because in all of the forums including RTW people said that it was a better campaign game which I am interested in. I haven't started the MTW campaign yet because after my Rome experience I realized that there are some really creative and talented people out there who've come up with some brilliant mods. My question is this, should I play Vanilla MTW or should I install some of the more developed mods? Since with these games you are pretty much devoting 40-100 hours I'd like to have the best gaming experience for my time commitment.
Play a few games with MTV+VI, after you will master it the mods will help refreshing your experience almost without limits.
I tried to play MTW-VI again recently and all it does is crash no matter how carefully I follow official and unofficial installation tips. Tried it 6 times. I really don't want to roll back my video driver each time I want to play as some say works for them. Any help from anyone would be appreciated. ~

you would think so wouldn't you?
the problem is that you have the RTW fanboys who refuse to acknowledge that CA dropped the ball with Rome. Don't get me wrong...I still play Rome (tons) and love it, but there are major issues with that game, and if it wasn't for the available mods, I wouldn't be playing it at all anymore.
