I started this thread specifically to hear if anyone else has any tried and true methods of creating new General's via Captains from the regular military. Personally I strongly believe that having 2:1 odds decreases this chance. I recall getting 3 chevrons bronze for 5-6 equites without getting a Adoptee from any of them. But one time I took 1x Equites 1x Hastati and 1x Velites on their first campaign against some rebels and in that battle, their very first, I had a adoptee appear.

So I hope to get some constructive proven experiences from others. I personally want to create a whole army of generals from the enlisted ranks of my military. It's nift and all with the Roman Families having children and or marrying but I am FASCINATED with the whole adoption aspect and want to get to work with making armies led by ADOPTEEs.

Any input that could list experiences, techniques, and or anything else that you feel could help would be appreciated.

you will have the biggest chance of adoption after battle :

When the odds in battle are 1;1 or when tyou are outnumberd you will get an increased chance that your general ( not family memebr ) of that battle get;s promoted to a real lofe general / governor.

Also you will get an increased chance when you have more settlements than family members.

combine these factors and you will most certainly have a grwat chance that a local battle general will be adopted in to your bloodline.

Once I got 2 of these adoptions in 1 turn, due to so few governors and so many settlements

hope that helped ~:)

I believe it`s MOTH we`re talking about.

I don`t know how much ratio has to say, but how many provinces compared to how many family members you have is very important.
Like in my first blitz krieg campaign I rejected all adoptions and ended up with spawning two MOTH`s in a row.

If you accept adoptions, then you`ll have little or no chance to spawn a MOTH.

Also, winning a hard battle against an AI general led army is good. I've had a 5 star MOTH when I destroyed a faction leader's forces with an inferior army.

I recently heard a trick that I haven't tried myself. It said that if you want to have a MOTH, besides (or as well as) having less governors than citeis, waht you do is go hunt rebels, but when you attack use a single peasant as teh instigator (attacker) and the real army as re-inforcements. Apparntly this is a really good way to spawn MOTH's.

There might be more to it though, as this sounds kinda simplistic, but I've never general farmed before so I don't know.

p.s. also like Viking said blitzkreiging gives you lots of new adoptees and/or MOTH's

Thanks for all the comments thus far! Keep them coming, I'm actively testing out various ideas I've had from reading the various guides , including the breeding guide. I'll be sure to note when I get my first captain -> General. By the way could anyone clear up what MOTH stands for ? :) I'm new to these forums ( only beaten the game once in medium/medium ) short campaign as the Julii. This time I'm the Brutii , love the opening speech, and I've already taken 2 greek cities and Carthage and a island city belonging to the Carthinigians.

I'm definately STUCK on trying to create a general.

I do recall in my Julii campaign that I did marry my daughters off whenever a male prospect popped up that had 3 stars of command. I ended up having several adoptions ( non marriage ) besides that!

MOTH = Man Of The Hour (the message you get when asked for adoption Captain -> General)

Well, that was actually my idea and it works like a gem but only up to a certain point since your number of generals are tightly connected to the number of provinces you hold. I always bolster pops in settlements to get them to the next levels so I always have tons of peasants migrating all over the map. As you stated I move a stack of peasants to the adjacent tile of the enemy and then engage him with a single unit peasant from another direction. And I always auto-calc theese battles since I don“t have time for micro-managing peasant battles.

I seem to get MOTH whenever I don't have enough family members. Candidates for adoption start popping up randomly too. I recently had a spate of family members die of plague and while taking several cities and was getting either a MOTH or candidate for adoption every turn.

One cruel way to increase promising generals is to do the MOTH trick as mentionned.

The caveat is to load up the deadbeats onto a single boat and make them attack a large fleet. Either that or send a horde of them into a suicide charge upon enemy armies.

Result is far better bloodlines.

Rather odd but this time around with Brutii I've been unable to get a MOTH. I've tried using 1 Principes solo to start a battle with a whole slew of reinforcements to assist. Haven't been able to get a MOTH this game , rather odd.

One interesting thing was one of my generals married while outside of a town about to siege a rebel town.

I don't understand why I haven't been able to get a MOTH. Tho I've had Governors sponsor Garrison commanders, quite a few.

I did manage to bribe 3-4 Greek Generals to join my side which was cool!

With 1 random General the MAD I have no clue where he came from -_-

Quick question but is it better to use peasants to start the battle 1x Peasants while other group is on the side seperated in another battle group when fighting to create a MOTH?

I just have a huge amount of peasants around since I migrate them to towns in order to boost pop to next level. I suspect though, since a peasant is such a weak unit, it helps. Attacking with the single unit makes him the "general" so the cred for the battle will go to that unit.

I spawned 1 MOTH! Finally! I continue to work on trying to get more MOTHs!

AHA!
