Well, if oyu would give us your comp's technical specs so we can tell whether you comp is just crappy and tell you in detail how to fix things in whatever OS you have.
Basically, if the step doesn't work, go onto the next:
1. Reinstall the copy of DirectX that's on your RTW CD.
2. Reinstall your graphics card drivers.
3. Set your graphic's card's acceleration to 0.
4. Alt+ Ctrl+ Del shutdown all the extra background programs you don't need running.
5. Run Disk Defrag(helps prevent crashes and speeds things up a tiny bit), Adaware, etc
6. Get a new computer.

Are you sure? double check by reinstalling and letting it install 9.0b.
I had the same problem with another game...turned out it was directX related.

Does the game itself work? is it just the intro?

the intro and when you click on a faction and it shows that video it also does it there.
I got the same problem, my computer even though is not the edge of the line computer but it consisder new. I got the latest direct x version install with my computer when it came; however, when I click on automatic update it said I dont' have the first pack and that I should install it which I did. Is that what cause my intro to be like clayton?
anyway here is my computer info:
HP pavilion a819n
hyper threating
pentum 4
512 MB pc 3200
intel graphic media accelerator 900
processor speed 2.8 ghz,
Updating graphics/sound drivers is a possible solution.
Also, I'd typically skip the intro. Add the -nm switch to boot directly into RTW without the whirling logo and intro video.

Do you have windows media player?
I doubt that's an issue as Media Player comes installed by default on most modern Windows systems.

Why not just try to ignore it? You can still play right?
True I usually don't watch it since I have watched my time before. anyway I don't think there is really any real concern over this issue, what i think it is that we both need a better graphic card ~:cheers:

Direct X is middleware that controls sound and graphics. DirectX problems will do that, but more likely crash the game instead of making it slow as crap.
A Jumpy Mouse is a VSync problem. That and the fact you're having jumpy everything else means your computer is running some sort of background program that's taking too much processing power.
What's I'd do is:
Start ->
Run->
Type in 'msconfig'
In msconfig, don't mess with anything unless you know what you're doing.
Check 'Selective Startup'
Uncheck the box that says 'startup group items'
This will turn off all the little programs your computer loads that aren't related to your computer's raw functionality, to turn it back on just reopen Msconfig and select Normal Startup.
Reboot->
This works for Win98 and Win98 derivatives like WinME. It may be weird working without a firewall or antivirus, but you can turn them on manually or just reboot under 'normal startup' or you can put them in the startup folder.

i had the same problem. The solution to my problem was when i downloaded the latest drives for my video card. I use Radeon card with 128 Mb but the drivers that came with the product did not support directX 9b that RTR uses. The next thing you got to check out is the readme file that refers to video card that are not compatible with the game (directx). My Video card is one of them but as i say downloading the latest drives problem solved
I doubt that's an issue as Media Player comes installed by default on most modern Windows systems.
Without the latest media player that can be quite the problem. Go ahead and rollback your media player and play RTW and watch the results
If you have xp sp2 then you must have the latest drivers or ALL games will crash (i found this out the hard way). There are no exceptions to this rule. This is due to the system not recognising any but the latest (at time of release/update) drivers.
Well I just install more memory card into the slot so now I have three, I find this way it also help the game performance better. Oh I don't know why it is much more slower when I take out the slot though, does it make your pc slower when install a new memory card and then take it out? :help: :help: :help: :help: :help: :help: :help:

I have the same problem as Clayton but the rest of the game works fine (except for the occasional white map issue). I can play the videos fine by opening the actual files in Windows Explorer, so I'm not really bothered that I can't watch them in-game.
