View Full Version : Difficulty level in Shogun
I just want to know what is the main difference between the "easy" and the "normal" difficulty level in the game...
Do you think that playing on "EASY" setting is too easy?(IMAGAWA / MOORI ???)
Is the "NORMAL" setting much more realistic ?
Is the "HARD" setting ... too hard ?
Thank you for answers.

There is a big difference between easy and Normal.
Doragon_Ajidrik: "There is a big difference between easy and Normal."
Thank you very much !

LOL...yeah there is a big difference between easy and normal http://www.totalwar.org/ubb/wink.gif
No really, the AI is aggressive in Normal- passive in Easy. I also believe after normal that the AI begins it's voodoo economic miracle (thanks G. Bush for the term http://www.totalwar.org/ubb/wink.gif).

also, the difficulty setting has a great effect on the resolve of the enemy. Try this in Custom Battle:
buy one unit of honor 9 monks, and purchase one unit of honor 9 monks for your AI controlled opponent. Set the difficulty level to easy. Attack the enemy monks from uphill and you should win fairly easily.
Now set the difficulty to Hard (or Normal, or whatever you want) and replay the battle. You'll notice that you must kill far more enemy monks than beofre, and you'll just barely win with a fewer of your guys left. That's the difference. So certain tactics (bridge storming battles) use up more men and make some tactics that you used on the Easy setting, not good choices in more difficult levels.
Thank you for all (!!!) answers.
So, Solypsist, you mean that the strategic map AI AND the tactical battle AI become harder if you increase the difficulty level.
First question : In that case when you play on line, what is the difficulty level ?
Second question : Is the "Shogun Battle generator" accurate ?

The battle generator is akin to playing with morale off. It measures how much damage units will inflict *assuming the loser doesn't run*, which is almost never seen with morale on. Otherwise, it's fairly accurate, although there have been some complaints about the accuracy of calculations such as WM vs. HC.
The best (=most accurate) testing method is still the custom battle, but the generator is useful too.
