Obviously, the more the merrier (or should I say, the more the less likely the people are to rise up in revolt?), but do certain units have more effect as garrison than others? Or, if not, is it a good idea to disband more expensive units in an area that won't get attacked due to a lack of anything but rebels in area with cheap militia or even peasants?

Hi CMcMahon,

I don't think the garrisons are based on quality at all. Try to move your capital in a more central location to ease in public order. You can also just lower the tax to increase public order instead of using large garrisons.

Those cost a lot. And lastly, build structures that contribute to public order so you won't need garrisons at all. Note, if you don't put a governor in a city, you need at least some soldiers in there (use the very depleted units) so not to incur the no-governance penalty. ~:)

It depends on a lot of factors. (distance from capital, culture, governors etc.)

On the closer cities with same culture, with no governors, I have the depleted units (he-he) such as 1 unit of 5 peasants (out of 240) etc. On middle distance provinces, I have one peasant or two peasants. If there's a governor, you normally don't need anything else.

The farthest, newly conquered obviously depends. But I just ease it down as I replace the buildings. ~

That depends on how long the city is from the capital and so on I would say.
The farther away from the capital the more garrison I use.
