Absolutley everything you need to know.
The stw mp thread also has lots of info,
but may requier a lot of searching,
You can tell people when your going to be playing there though
heres the link

Im not puzz3d. btw.
:)
I do beleve that the server will work for origional shogun too,
but you may want to get the MI add on.
as i dont know if you can play agianst people who have WE/MI with the origional shogun.
Prehaps i should find my old shogun an test it out.

I have tested the origional shogun with Shogun WE MI and Shogun origional.
The game just does not seem to work with the server I am Running,
I will try to find out how i can host a server for the origional version.
But unfortunatly Right now,
You can only play
Warlords edition or the origional shogun with the Mongold invasion installed,
I will inform you if i can host a server that will host the origional shogun game.
Sorry.

Welcome to the .org Wombatslayer! Please give us a short introduction of you in this thread: https://forums.totalwar.org/vb/showthread.php?t=48375
I am pretty sure you cannot play against people with WE, but I think you can use the server for the original shogun.
I don't think there are many people left playing shogun original. The few diehards we have play WE, so I think it's best to try to find a copy of that if you want to play online.
I'd be glad to play with you. ~:)

As long as another person has the original shogun you can play together on a Fakeserver.
People with original STW can play together.
People with STW/MI and STW/WE can play together.
But people with original STW cannot play with people with STW/MI or /WE

I tired last night.
You cant.
You cant.
can't use the server[/b] with shogun original??
or can't [u]play against WE with an STW original copy?
The first one would be a deception for the 7bear7 clan, as they seem to prefer STW original. I think you meant the second one, luckily. ~:)

A Fakeserver is only a means of connecting for online play.
As long as the people connected are using the same stats they can play.
Original STW with Original STW the stats are the same (if they haven't been modded) you can play.
STW/MI or /WE the stats are the same again unless modded. You can play.
If you are using v1.02 and the other player is using v1.03, conflict, you cant play.
If one is using STW and the other STW/MI or /WE you cant play.
You get the same with MTW MTW/VI
People can play MTW together and MTW/VI together but, one with MTW and one with MTW/VI you cant play.
Jochi.

Hmmm... okay, so (Shambles) what happened when you tried to log on with the original version? It says, on mine, that it's trying to log on... and that's it...
Well, then I think you cannot play STW via shambles 'WE-server'.
I don't know of any STW-original server, so I'm afraid you cannot play STW MP.
I don't know how you think about WE(if you like that one too) you can try to get a copy (e-bay?).

origional version will log in just fine,
But at the top theres usualy a lil scroll window where hosted games would go,
When using the origional shogun That window is not displayed..
And hosted games cannot be seen

I can't log in at all :(
That happens more often. :dizzy2:
Try logging in several times with different names, no pasword, and no CD-key.
I am in the foyer now, actually, I hope to see you there. ~:)

Does that work!? I have an account and password...
Also, just yesterday, it tried to log on... it said it was logging on, but that's all that happened...
I guess you're a long time player.
With the official server you needed an account, but with the fakeservers you don't. Simply type a player name, click a family name and log in!
See you! :bow:

If you're getting a "Logging On ..." message that just hangs for a while and then says "Failed to Connect" (if you wait long enough), your client is not finding the server at all. The first thing I would verify is that the information in your internet.cfg file (in your Shogun game folder) is correct.
For Shambles' server, the information should be:
ChatserverIPAddress = ShogunTW.no-ip.info
ChatserverPort = 8793
NewsserverIPAddress = daphne.eagames.co.uk
NewsserverPort = 8797
ShogunTotalWarWebsite = www.totalwar.com
I cut and pasted this information from mine, and I can access Shambles' server without problems.
Once you get to the message "Logged On," then your client has "found" the server. Any subsequent problems are most likely going to be related to communication between the fakeserver and your installation of Shogun. All you need to supply is a nickname and Japanese surname. Password and CD-Key are not used by the fakeservers.
Do remember to repeat the log on process several times if it stalls at "Logging On ..." or "Logged On," as even my attempts get stuck occasionally. Repeated attempts (2-3) usually get past the problem (assuming the server is running and the information in the internet.cfg file is correct).
***
As to the constrasting opinions/experiences regarding playing different game versions on fakeservers, theoretically you should be able to play others if game type and versions match (for Shogun original there is still potential for version mismatch between 1.0 and 1.12). However, I do know that Shambles has installed the same version of the original on his two PCs and tried to play MP on his server without success (the fakeserver's game window does not display), so obviously something is not working on his server that has on others (as I do know there have been those who've played MP with the original Shogun successfully on a fakeserver).

Hi Shambles
OK I tested tonight. STW v1.0 (original shogun)
Set up a fakeserver and logged on to foyer....ok
Other person joined my fakeserver....ok
Hosted a game....ok
Other person could not see my game.
He then hosted a game....ok
I could not see his game.
As you posted, the square at the top of the foyer has all the headings but not the lines to define the areas. Games cannot be seen.
Player list works and foyer chat works.
In theory there should be no problems.
Works ok with STW/WE

The Fakeserver you are using is the original.
It was a program made to allow people to play online when EA pulled the plug.
Can't remember who made it. Maybe TosaInu would remember.
May be something in the text file readme.

Actually, it just says "Logging On..." and that's it. It never says "Failed to Connect- just "Logging On...". That goes on forever.
Weird. I never have that. Only thing I know is that when logging on fails it mostly is a problem with the name. Have you tried different? And remember to let password and CD-key open.

Actually, it just says "Logging On..." and that's it. It never says "Failed to Connect- just "Logging On...". That goes on forever.
If mine says "Logging On..." for more than about 5 seconds I quit and try again. Takes me 1 or 2 tries usually.

Yep, best to do what Sasaki suggests.
When my attempts hang at "Logging On ...," I have to wait for about a minute (I assume the software attempts to log in continuously for a preprogrammed amount of time before "timing out") before it displays a "Failed to Connect" message. For a long time I didn't know there was a "Failed to Connect" message because I never waited long enough to see it. While troubleshooting for someone else who mentioned seeing it a while back, I discovered that the "Failed to Connect" message eventually occurs if you don't interrupt the log in attempt before the time out point is reached. For some of us, anway ... .
Original Shogun v1.12 worked fine for me with fakeserver when I was using Win98se. I haven't tried it with WinXP, but I know several people for whom it doesn't work under WinXP. If you are interested in original STW gameplay, try the Samurai Wars mod for MTW/VI v2.01 if you have that game. It's quite close to the original STW gameplay except that units rotate slower and cav charge works (it never worked in STW v1.12).

I have posted in another thread by Shambles about his FakeServer.
Original STW patched to v1.12 does work on his FakeServer.
All the sections for the hosted games are now visible.
I am using Windows XP SP2.
Logging on with Original STW, I seem to connect first time each time.
These are just tests that I have carried out.

Well, it's been a while. School started and I'm on the computer again with Shogun Original... sigh
I need to order MI or WE... can anyone suggest which is better?
Also: I cannot simply cancel my login... I can type in a name, family name chosen, press "logon" but then it just displays a message (Something along the lines of "logging in") and freezes... until it pops up saying that it failed to log in. I'm using Shamble's server, and my settings (according to the copied and pasted suggestion earlier posted) are all in order...

They both do the same thing. MI is an add-on to STW while WE is STW + MI included in a single install.

If it says Loging In.
You can press escape to cancel and ty again.
If it says Connecting, And then just Hangs there,
Then either settings are either wrong.
Firewall stops Shogun connecting to the internet,
Or the server is down.
(or similar problem)
Your welcome to add me to msn or icq, If you would like some help.
The details are in my profile,
Also,
If you get MI, "may be best for you as you have STW already"
It may be a good idea To know that I have been able to Log on to the server Much easier when I Have it installed on a fat 32 drive,
Having said MI would probably be your best bet,
WE would probably be Much easier to find, and Then you would have 2 working copys of shogun,
Not 1 working copy and a Upgrade,
Hope it helps.
and did some 1 delete My post wher i said v1.12 Of shogun works on fake server ??

Mk... Firewall is disabled
Server isn't down- my internet is working fine. In fact, I use fios, which is always connected.
And... settings... well, if those are the the IP address and all those sorts mentioned earlier, them I'm in good shape...

that's good news! but you indeed need to mess with firewall first ~;)
well if you're failing to connect try again some other time (server down) or check if your internet.cfg file is EXACTLY the same as shambles posted it here.(configuration not ok)
if you're having problems during 'logging on' you probably have windows XP.. many people with XP have that problem but most succeed to log in after a few attempts.. if you don't succeed.. go to the 'STW MP' forum here at the .org and read the 'FAKESERVER LOGIN 1st TIME!' thread. there people are figuring out how to fix the problem with XP.. but you could also try to play shogun on a comp with win98 if you have one.. ~:)
hope you'll solve it sometime

Well for my server the ip adress should be,
ShogunTW.no-ip.info
and the port should be.
8793.
So the importaint bits of internet.cfg should look like.
ChatserverIPAddress = ShogunTW.no-ip.info
ChatserverPort = 8793
NewsserverIPAddress = daphne.eagames.co.uk
NewsserverPort = 8797

Common problem many suffer from,
Most people try to log in, Then if there not loged in within 3-4 seconds
They Hit escape and try again,
Repetedly.
I can log 2nd time every time, now that its installed on a fat32 hard drive,
It could also be to do with family name,
i seem to log in easy with AdmiN as my family name.
Others have difrent methods,
Try looking in the Fakeserver Login 1st time thread,
And hope to see you in the foyer some time.

Edit,
Having browsed Previous staements It seems you are using the ORIGIONAL shogun.
The origional shogun Should not suffer from login failures,
I will Now leave a link to a internet.cfg file,
Please Save the file (scan for Virus) "becous you always should"
and then place it in your shogun directory,
To make shure you place the file in the right directory,
Right click the short cut you use to open Shogun,
Say Properties.
Then click Find target,
The directory that gets opend is where you would need to place the internet.cfg
http://freespace.virgin.net/shambles.instalations/Internet.cfg

Uhm, so I right clicked and all and found the directory I've been using. It's the file titled "Internet confg" correct? I open it in word pad and change it to the perscripted suggestions (foudn in the link you gave me)?
I did that if that's waht I was supposed to do. I didn't have to save the link you gave me- I just copied and pasted and saved the file on wordpad.
