Do any of you guys remember on MTW when you crossed a river, there was a village(usually) on the other side? Wouldnt it be nice if you could do that on Rome, does anybody know if it can be done

:-\ The maps on RTW are random so, unless you find a way for it to use buildings IE perhaps make them a type of tree, then probably not. MTW's map were all premade.

Grrrrrrr, wat about using the battle map editor to, well, edit the battle maps with river crossings and put buildings on one side of a river? you can have farm houses on the maps already so maybe the principles the same, i dunno i just cant figure out how to get the battle map editor

well, have you attacked an army when the army is standing on a bridge or a ford, cos thats the only time you will have a bridge fight. Hope this helps !!

It depended again on the province you were in. Ones with major rivers running through them on the campaign map usually tended to have bridge battles. If you highlighted one province to see what terrain featured there, and then dragged the mouse over to a province you were attacking or defending then the terrain feature (if there were rivers there) would say River and hence youd have a bridge battle. I used to tactically go for these provinces all the time to use as a choke point for my defence strategies.

Couple of archers and good ol' men at arms used to make short work of most armies on bridges ~D

Gosh i miss MTW :embarassed:

Maps arent random but it uses the campaign map to construct the battlemap.

to use the battle editor you need to have v1.2. it then says to input "enable_editor" in the console thing. i tried this but it wouldnt work. so thats as much as i know. hope it was a little help

It depends on how much pressed you are in the campaign. I played a julii campaign where I simultaneously expanded into Carthage, Gaul and Germania, and soon also Spain at the same time. Before 10 turns had passed I was at war with all of them and deep inside their territories. The result was of course that I couldn't have as large armies to fight each foe, so I had to be clever with the resources I had. Therefore I camped on river crossings, and got plenty of river battles. In earlier campaigns I didn't get nearly as many river battles, because I had larger armies and didn't need the rivers. Also, if you want an opponent to attack you when you're camping at a river, you need to have a much smaller army than the opponent, otherwise they will seldom attempt it. I fought many german armies at a danube crossing with an army consisting of 1 general and 1 sarmatian mercenaries, later with 1 barbarian mercenaries and 3 hastati added.
