Is it me or has gay ceased to be an insult nowadays. I remember in the 90s when I was in school calling something or someone gay was a strong insult. Nowadays it doesn't really seem to mean anything at all?

Is that a sign of society maturing or is it just that people got tired of the word?

It's never been a very offensive insult in highschool here. It's almost as garden variety as calling someone lame or something. I'm sure if you actually are gay though it stings a bit.

I even recall certain groups of males in high school (read: morons) who would greet their group of friends affectionately, "What's up, fags?"
