Let's find out how many orgers have an iPod and which one!
FYI, an iPod is an apple product, designed by Steve Jobbs. It is a small portable mp3 player. It comes in many different variants. For more info check, www.ipodlounge.com

I don't have one. But my brother, dad and mum have an iPod.

The iPod is categorically style over substance. I'll take my Iriver H140 over it anyday.

IMHO, most Apple products are style over substance.
And, I do not own one.

I hate the iPod, but feel that I shall inevitably own one through the strains of peer pressure...

I've got a 20Gb, coming up on 2 years old now... I like it, it's shiny.
I have another mp3 player - a better one imo - a creative 40 gb zen.

I prefer the cheaper, larger capacity, better sound quality and more intuitive Creative Zen to be honest...
I just bought Mrs ichi an iPod knockoff for her birthday, tomorrow we learn how to fill it with music and then use it.

Ditto. I-river supports many more formats than iPod- like Ogg Vorbis.
I don`t have an Ipod, nor do I want one.
I would much more prefer Creative zen micro or any other of their mp3 players.

The reason why I chose an iPod, is very simple. The way navigation works (the menus are always the same, intuitive interface), the synch function with iTunes, design and acessories (sp?).
I know that other mp3 players have more battery time, however, to say they have more capacity is a lie - show me one that has more than 60 gb.
Only thing is the price - it is more expensive, and it is obviously the design/brand that costs you - but the software and the way music works - iPods are also better.
I myself have a g4 20gb

Same is true for the nomads.
the synch function with iTunes,
I'll give you that, although I find the idea of paying for mp3 quality music awful.
design and acessories (sp?).
What, you mean the design that was ripped straight from the nomad?
I know that other mp3 players have more battery time,
Yet you still buy the iPod. Strange things consumers are.
however, to say they have more capacity is a lie - show me one that has more than 60 gb.
From a cursory read of this thread, precisely zero people have said that. Keep dreaming up these imaginary attacks on the iPod though :dizzy2:

No it's not the design and brand that cost you. It's the marketing.
- but the software and the way music works - iPods are also better.
I fail to see how anything can be better than the creative system, where the software integrates so the player is treated as another drive.
The music doesn't work better. The quality is better on any serious competitor (ie. not cheap imitations) than the iPod.
I myself have a g4 20gb
This does not surprise me. Apple has the skill of turning people into mindless marketing drones honed to an art.

Woah. I'd prefer it if you wouldn't refer to people as Apple marketing drones-that can only lead bad places.

I do not own an Ipod. I don't particullary care for it, as I'm a big CD fan, and would gladly shell out money for a real CD. But if someone gave it to me, I'd keep it, so I wouldn't say I hate it. ~;)

Style is substance. You mean looks ~;)
I got an iPod mini 4GB. Serves its purpose quite well :0
I want Sony's MP3 player....well I don't care which one you see...most definitely style over subbstance but when you can get 70 hours battery life out of an AAA battery, who cares how crap sonicstage software is?
Currently using a CD player from the mid 90s... ~D

Only problem about sonicstage is that it doesn't work with windows. So it won't run no matter what you do. I got one and had to return it for that reason.

You can still own a media jukebox and use CDs you know-that's what I do. Just rip them to your PC.
15gb 3g one. It's nice, bit scratched. Had to rip it open and replace the battery though. *kicks Apple*
The iRiver had possibly the most confusing interface in the world, ever.

How? It seems really easy to use to me, unless you're one of those people who somehow gets confused by the whole long button press-short button press thing. It also has a full function remote! You can make your own filetree structure!
*bigs up the iriver*

Bah, I don't remember writing that, although I obviously did. Apologies for that line though.
While the rest is a bit harsh, I still stand by it though.
i'd buy an ipod for one reason, i know they work, they've had the exact same design for over 3 years now, and they're an apple, yes i like apples, i like their simplicity and stability.
and what other formats of music do you need, people only use mp3s they don't use any of the others unless they're foolish.
thanks,

well some foolish people are using apples lossless format or aac - which the iPod supports as well as many other formats.
i hate "the pod"
All owners of them need to be step in front of a speeding city bus…. I would much rather buy a new sax mouthpiece instead of squandering my money on that.

I rip to Ogg Vorbis. Superior file format to MP3, in my opinion.
All owners of them need to be step in front of a speeding city bus….
Xemitg, is this really productive?
Does the iPod sound good unlike MP3 tin-can-sounds?
Indeed Sanctaphrax it is because after that I explained a better use for your money. I was a bit harsh though. All pod owners need to use their money better and give it to me.

Let go of the iPod and listen to the real world. Jesus, even I am not that anti-social....
Sorry, just had to use the J-word, didn't mean to offend, please suggest an alternative word if you want.
Jesus, even I am not that anti-social....
What does it have to do with being anti-social?
The real world doesn´t talk to me either way, if I (pretend to)listen to music, at least they talk about me and I can listen to them. ~D ~D ~D
please suggest an alternative word if you want.
Please edit that, yes. Take 'darn it' or something quite light. ~:)
I agree with your opinion. Darn I-pods. :furious3:

I bought an iPod a while ago but I don't find much use for the thing.
I think its a touch-wheel one with firewire. I'm told my more up-to-date 'podders' that it is an antique of an ipod. It came from the US.
I quite like the fact it doesn't use batteries and that it charges whenever I plug it into my computer. I don't like the way that doing this seems to launch 1001 applications of which I only want to use one.
The sound quality is passable on headphones but when played through speakers the upper and lower levels are poor.
Sjakihata
06-20-2005, 12:22
I bet the speakers you tried to connecto to the iPod was poor. It isnt the iPod that twists music into bad quality, if that is what you are implying. It's simply stores music. Now, if the owner put some bad encoded mp3s or something on it, obviously it will sound bad. Just use 192 quality.

Danr it doesn't have the same effect as Jesus, I will start a thread for alternative religion nuetral words, partly because it should be entertaining and partly because I could use a new word....
iPods make people tune out, such as my brother and several dozen people that I notice at my school. This makes them anti-social. They are also a waste of money, far too much for such a simple thing.
yeah on most stereo speakers 192 will do fine, but for the better speakers, you'll need to rip at 256 or higher to not notice the difference between it and normal music, the biggest problem people have with mp3s is that they all rip them to 128 or even 68 kbps and then it sounds like crap, of course it does, it only has 64 kbs to draw from each second, if you use mp3s for listening to music you always rip to 192 or higher.
thanks,
dizzy
