The best fleeing unit killer is ... ???

When I win a battle, and when my ennemy starts to flee, how should I kill his fleeing units ?
I have tried Cav. Archers : rather good, I think.
And what about Yari Cav. ? (better than CA ?)

I would say that Yari Cavalry would be the best seeing that they are the fastest unit in the game.

Yari cav,but keep them out of the woods and watch out for fleeing enemy troops that you outrun and get behind you,while your engaging
to the front they will hit your cav from the rear and you'll take unneccessary casualties.

Want to see what doesn't work? Let a line of archers get in front of routing troops... The corpes' will be yours!
Yari cav kill faster, but as has been said, don't get them in front of the routing troops. You'll take a lot of casualties unnecessarily.

Definitely: ARQUEBUSIERS! They are otherwise useless. Send these worthless scum to give chase, thus freeing up your real fighting force for dealing with the remains of the enemy's broken army.

Have you EVER seen a samurai or monk rally when chased by an ASHIGARU unit? NO! Why? There is no honor in dying at the hands of a scummy peasant! Hence, they would rather flee and fight another day!

I usually use Yari Ashigaru or Yari Cavalry for my fleeing killer. 1 because Ashigaru are the fastest infanty unit and Yari Cav well because they are the fastest unit in the game. http://www.totalwar.org/ubb/smile.gif

I have found that when it rains the only thing to use gunners for is to chase fleeing enemies. Of course some units can outpace them, rally and slaughter the gunners, but if the routers are close to the edge of the battlefield then they will not get the chance. I've actually had a musketeer unit fire on an enemy unit, rout them and chase them across most of the map. Unfortunately the fleeing enemy were nodachi who managed to outdistance my gunners and rally just in time. Their second charge against my unformed gunners was not pretty! But the peasants nearly got them!

Since I am the leading authority and resident expert on fleeing armies . . my men feel that the best unit to stick em in their buttocks as they run away is the .. . "yari cav!" followed by cav archers (if they are out of arrows that is). http://www.totalwar.org/ubb/smile.gif If you like I can show you my buttocks scars to prove the effectiveness of cav with sharp pointy sticks! LOL
