Grogs v2.0 AI's Revenge.
A gameplay mod for RTW v1.2
by IceTorque.

The main goal of this mod is to correct some complaints many fans have with the gameplay of RTW.
1.Battles are too fast and too easy.
2.The strat map has too much micromanagement.
3.The battles are the heart and soul of TW games.
3.The AI is dumb.

If you disagree with the above then perhaps this mod is not for you.

If you agree welcome to Grogs v2.0 AI's Revenge. This mod reduces or eliminates some of the most
tedious tasks and player exploits found in the original game,
and returns RTW to the style of gameplay found in the previous TW games.
Which is a less complicated strat map, and to focus on challenging the player on the battlefield.

Featuring:
1.Consistently challenging battles, from start to finish.
2.A more fun and less tedious strat map experience.
3.Long or short battles, depends on tactics used.
4.All factions have Cavalry Generals.
5.All factions can recruit archer and cavalry units.
6.All post marion and elite units are available from game start which is 100 BC.
7.Phalanx's changed to javelin/swordsmen.
8.Naval battles are decisive, no more billiard ball ships.
9 No mercs, To eliminate AI stacks consisting of half strength units.
10.Diplomats, spies and assassins are removed. This almost eliminates tedious micromanagement.
11.Uses the original RTW map, as it offers a good balance of not too many or too few battles.
12.Bridges and stone walls are removed from game, to ensure more challenging gameplay.

And a few other minor tweaks for a fast opening game and a more manageable end game.
Focusing the gameplay on military strategy, and NOT meaningless diplomacy and spy v's spy etc.

You be the judge, try a mini campaign as the romans, and to be consistent with gameplay changes,
The Roman civil war is at the start of the game, and your first task will be to unite the Italian peninsula.

Gameplay tips:
1.All unit types have equal stats e.g. Early legionary cohort is equal to an Urban cohort,
to ensure uniform high quality AI armies, and to allow the players armies to consist of
their own particular favourite units without penalty. This also encourages more realistic
gameplay as two big advantages on the battlefield is a units experience and a Generals reputation.
And NOT level two unit can beat level one unit.
2.With no diplomats war is your only diplomacy, and no bribe exploit.
3.Not having spies ensures you must recon with your army and take chances,
adding more surprise to the gameplay equation.
4.No assassins ensures all killing is done honorably on the battlefield.
5.No bridges and no stone walls ensures that you can run but you can't hide.
6.Custom battles, note that only those units used in the campaign game have enhanced stats.
6.Hold the line and have fun.

is there any type of formations mode in this?

Uses vanilla formations, But all units are set six deep so the one line
formation works really well.
Allowing a nice battle line to form.

Let's make a deal - you start calling "Artificial Intelligence" AI instead of "A1" and I'll try out your mod. Deal?

DLing now.

And thanks - I think I'm obsessive-compulsive on things like "A1" because it makes me spasm in anger.

i don't know, i don't like the stats thing.

i don't know, i don't like the stats thing.

The stats ensure that, There is no advantage to either side/faction.
So no longer can you rely on superior troops (or missiles) to win.

Battles now feel a lot more like they did in STW.
That is they are much more challenging and although a good player
will still win most battles there is always that element of doubt.

I just tried to lift a siege with 15 units v's 20, Sure i reloaded coz it took
me 4 tries to win that particular battle.
It was the most challenging battle i have had with RTW, If not the
entire TW series.
