View Full Version : To hell with Morrowind Oblivion!
Look at these lovely pics from Gothic3 http://newspics.rpgdot.com//galview.php?level=3&sort=&from=0&d2=931&d3=Screenshots&d4=&d5=
Now for those that don't know Gothic, it is a smaller but better crafted game then morrowind, more depth and personality but still the same open ended gameplay.

I'm really looking forward to this one. Though Morrowind is fun, the more story-driven Gothic games were more to my taste (even if the game controls seem to be a bit awkward when you play them for the first time).

wow this looks great, now I''m going to have to save my money... I really do want Oblivion AND Gothic 3, is there a release date for Gothic 3 ?
:balloon2:
First it's Elder scrolls 4:Oblivion, just as it was Elder scrolls 3:Morrowind. Second if it's not for Xbox I'll never be playing it. I can't stand PC RPG's, the controls always suck and it's to hard on the eyes to read the text.

Yes sir! I will go to bed without tea to punnish myselve for this grave atrocity.

But the x-box only has PC rpg's! It will probably be on the Xbox 360, I hope so because I prefer playing on a console myselve as well.

Ok now was gothic the 1 with 3 difrent factions and you could chose which you would join by preforming tasks for them
Or was that morrowind,
I remember Morrowind was HUGE!!!!!
and i made mods for it,
Im prety shure gothic's controlls were Prety darn horrible though.
But morrowind had some prety good controlls.
I wouldnt play any of these games on A console,
I dont like the lack of controlls and having to use a sholder button to scroll through all your weapons and stuff,
Its like playing a FPS on a console Or Hit man on a console. (you may as well leave the game in the box IMO)
Il just get both for the pc I guess.
I usualy buy the entire seriese of games any way

to hell with oblivion
That is kinda funny as oblivion is the hell of the morreind world(cant rember the lands name).

Tamriel, but that is the continent that Morrowind, Highrock, Daggerfall et all are on. They haven't given a name to the planet.
Isn't in Nirn????
Anyways, If gothic 3 is released in Aus (gothic 2 wasn't) then I'll get both, but as is I am a devoted Elderscrolls fanatic. I have to say, having seen the gothic 3 movies and the oblivion movies.. Oblivion just looks a lot "cleaner" "smoother" and overall better But I'll have to wait to play em myself before I decide.

Has Rome: Total War taught you guys nothing about the relationship between graphics and gameplay? ~;)

Could be, IIRC it's in Morrowinds manual. I guess I'll check.

Unless Bethesda spent all of Oblivions developement time gettin drunk shooting dice and chasing floozies they couldn't possibly scrwe up the game play.

And I didn't think that CA could possibly destroy their own tactical battle system.

They didn't destroy it they made it infinitely better.

The thing that messed up rome is that it tried to go mainstream, but morrowind was already mainstream(atleast as mainstream as an rpg can get) so you cant really compare the two.

the gothic series is cool, i look forward to both.
Will Gothic 3 support mods as readily as Morrowind accepts plug-ins ?
The Morrowind mod community is tremendously prolific.

Gothic, well-crafted and open-ended? surely you are joking. i've beat Gothic and it was an extremely sloppily-designed, closed-ended game. for the first chapter you are constantly getting beaten over the head with the complete and utter blatant lie that you get a choice about the story; when in reality there is no choice whatsoever. as a result, the "plot" ends up making no sense whatsoever (ie: no matter which clan you join; you end up doing the same exact jobs for rival clans who are the enemy of the clan you are in)
a few years ago, i had wrote a fairly large manifesto about why Gothic is a bad, closed-ended, sloppily-designed game. that's how disappointed i was because everyone was hyping it as the best thing since sliced bread, but in reality it fell way short of doing anything spectacular.

Yeah but I don't feel like spending another $300-400 for another system. Maybe they'll bundle it with the Xbox360, and two controllers. That would be a good deal.

I'll deffinetly get it if it's backwards compatible, which it's rumoured to be.

Im going to get xbox 360 as soon as oblivion comes out. ~:)
oops, it looks like this thread has become about oblivion, which it was supposed to be against.

I trust that you have played both Medieval and Shogun extensively before making that post.

Rome is much better than shogun. I sent samuri's at basic archers and the archers destroyed my samuri :embarassed: .

You do, of course, understand that Shogun's "basic archers" were actually full-fledged samurai, with katanas? They are, and should be, quite proficient in melee.

Shogun and Medieval were better (if one just looks at goodness, without comparing graphics or gameplay).

Yes, but the highest level of swordsmen should still beat an archer in close combat.
Shogun owns Rome, but medieval is a terrible game.

To many variables involved in this statement. One would need numbers, weather, terrain, etc. However, if you pit a group of No-Dachi and Samurai Archers on a plain and made them melee it out, then the No-Dachi, should have won. In fact, they mostly do.
I trust that you have played both Medieval and Shogun extensively before making that post.
Yes, played them to death. You see for me RTW was the first TW game where I could get better results in battles if I played them myself. In STW I got so fed up with losing half my army (at best) everytime I fough a battle I just stopped al together. When MTW came along it was the same thing. The clunky craptacular controls and interface plus the retarded camera killed the battles for me in MTW and STW.
That is interesting...I never thought the interface was clunky in any sense of the word. If anything, I thought the battles were too easy on the normal setting. My particular gripes with RTW focus on the insane speed, as well as the concessions made to the RTS fanboys that haven't played anything more tactical than Starcraft or AoE (which, by the way, are good games).
But that's enough of that; I believe I have hijacked this thread for far too long now. :)

The controls are better in rome. How ever, i think that the other games had better over all battles:
1:better AI
2:Bigger battle fields
3:more interesting battle fields
4:better charge bonus
Just my2cents
Back on topic: what do you think of the Morrowind story line? is it linear or can you just kinda do what ever you want?

In morrowind you can do what ever you want(and theres a ton to do), but there is a solid main storyline too.
In oblivion there will be even more freedom as npc's will actaully live out there lives and make decisions.
