I hope you'll continue to grace us with your presence, although more aggressive use of smilies can lead to slurred speech and slower brain function so dont make a habit of it - for your own good. ~

How telling. I figured half your troubles were caused by never having read enough Calvin and Hobbes comic strips during your formative years, BP.

Thanks everyone.

it's both. allow me to consult the tomes..

ah yes, here it is, HPJC, pg 14:

calvin says, "these fall mornings sure are pretty. the brisk air, the smell of leaves... all ruined because i have to get on a bus and go to school. when i was a pre-schooler i never took advantage of fall mornings. i didn't appreciate them."

hobbes observes, "another squandered youth."

calvin laments, "sighhh... i was so young and foolish. i thought those days would last forever."

glad you liked it. :2thumbsup:

Ah yes, forget those hacks Nietzsche and Plato, stupid comic strip are really the educational tools I needed to become a good person. ~;)

You know who they were based on, right?

Hobbes is my favorite of them all, you wine waster.

Yes I aware that there is a philospher called Calvin and a philosopher called Hobbes(who I really want to read). What is their relevence to the comic strip?

Why did you spit your wine, hasn't anyone else ever told you they love you before?

JAG
06-30-2005, 05:20
You really, really don't want to read Hobbes - what a first class arsehole that guy was with his views, in my opinion of course.

His form of a social contract can go rust in the dustbin of terrible philosophical ideas.

Lol, moving this thread into backroom territory are we?

Well I read my encyclopedia's take on him and he seems to be extremist in very bad ways. I think reactionary is a better word. He liked the royalty ~. Thought everyone should live by anything the church and the king said at all times ~ . You are right JAG, thanks for the heads up. That would have made a devastating read.

Erm, the characters in the strip are based on them. That's why I thought it was odd to suggest that you were too busy reading philosophy to bother with this comic.

Congrats Prol. And Gawain's right, 1K quality posts at that. Your wit and sarcasm frequently have me spitting wine or beer. Tell me, is it like having 50 brothers when you post on here, and we act like flunkys from Maxim magazine staff? ~;)

Hmmm. Both JAG and BP violently dislike this Hobbes character. He can't be too bad...

And Calvin and Hobbes is awesome! It's a shame their not made anymore.

Oh yeah, congrats Pro! I too wasted my youth outside of the frontroom.

You might like him, I dunno. He was the guy who believes all power should be in the hands of the state, even if they abuse it and are dictators, because an organised state even if abusing its position is better than no state at all. He said that no state and power in the hands of each individual would result in "war of every man against every man" and make life "solitary, poor, nasty, brutish, and short."

Makes him a first class wanker in my book.

You're too kind. Thank you.

It's more like maybe four or five brothers. (And you're all a bit more crass than the Maxim staff.)
