Konnichiwa,

You might need some time to learn use the demo editor and you really should read this faq if you decide to use it:
http://www.totalwar.org/maps/maps/mapedit3.ZIP

Maps made with the demo editor are both compatible with STW, WE and MI. Most xpack editor made maps, are only compatible with WE & MI.

xeditor allows small, medium and big maps.
deditor only small.

xeditor allows more tricks with water.
xeditor offers more options with models and woods, and has more types of models.

deditor has much better height adjustments.
deditor is helpful in making historical battles, the xeditor is not.

'...is shaded in color...' what do you mean? do you have warlord's edition or mongol invasion? i think there was a thread about this once before and i think it was someone with mongol invasion. they also couldnt call up the editor because it was shaded out and if i recall correctly someone else suggested that they needed to have a full install of stw first and then install MI over it. not real sure. you might try and tech help forum.

but i believe the new editor shld work with both WE and MI. if it doesnt and you cant get any help in these forums, try EA tech support.

as for the earlier stw demo editor, it's located on the totalwar.com pages somewhere, but it's not called a demo game or a demo editor. it's called something like 'battle trainer' and is a 90 meg download. the earlier stw editor is built into that.

"You might need some time to learn use the demo editor and you really should read this faq if you decide to use it: http://www.totalwar.org/maps/maps/mapedit3.ZIP" (http://www.totalwar.org/maps/maps/mapedit3.ZIP)

That faq also tells you which 'tools' are required.

Sad to hear that your xeditor doesn't work.

Kraellin, shaded in color means that the item is not accesible. A working menu item is blackish, a disabled one is greyish.

oK, i GOT IT.
But it's still a bit too hard to learn how to make models and remove trees and those other terrain. Right now, I only know how to alter the elevation, make trees, move trees, make a bridge, delete a bridge, and nothing more.

well, you cant place models all by themselves in the demo editor, like you can in the xpack editor. the models are 'attached' to various textures and the only way you can get the models is by placing the textures. and some of the models wont even show till you save the map, exit, and re-load the map.

find my thread in this forum entitled 'demo editor (not Rob's editor)'. it has a number of tips and tricks for using the demo editor. the demo editor is a LOT fussier than the new editor, but it does work.

i see you've also posted in the tech support forum and that erado posted some advice in there for you. ALWAYS listen to erado first, then me ;) if erado says white and i say black, then go with white :) course, now that i said that, that would mean go with black...lol.

i better leave this alone before i confuse myself. erado is prolly right about the memory thing. the xpack editor takes a LOT of texture memory, so yer current hardware stuff may be the reason it's shaded out on your machine. my vid card is 64 megs and my ram is 512 megs and it still taxes my machine at times. best if you can get a card with at least 32 megs, though you might squeak by with 16...not sure.
