well battles are faster in very hard than they are on medium difficulty.
Due to the moral bonusses or something like that.

However on campaign difficulty you should choose very hard to get a challenge, I think that the AI cheats a little more on very hard.

It seems in vh the AI have bonus to make your troops rout..... but game has a bug (another :furious3:) and it seems player get that bonus also..... so like you play better than AI, you can make them rout fast and get easier battles.... :dizzy2:

Maybe most difficult is: vh/vh and avoid use cavalry, since it is the best way to make enemy rout.

yes you could very well be right about the bonusses , I don't really know.
I just know something weird happens with the battle AI at very hard and therefor rout even faster.

I usually play vh./m

Medium because nobody get's the bonusses.

Personally I prefer M/M since I found that the AI cheats like hell on the strat game too on the higher levels. Once I sacked Capua and raised all the buildings, made peace and handed the settlement back to the Romans. The next turn they declare war on me so I besiege Capua again taking it the very next turn. To my suprise the AI had manage to build a barrack, miss range, temple and trader in just two turns!!! ~ On M/M I haven´t found any major "upsets" this far. This, and the fact that VH/VH isn´t that hard makes my games more enjoyable now.

There's a thread about this battle difficulty thing in Ludus Magna which has research done on it. Maybe you want to potter down there and take a look?

Here are the differences in Battle Mode - Difficulty Levels:

Medium - No AI bonuses
Hard: 4+ Attack Factor (Primary/Secondary) and 4+ Morale
Very Hard: 7+ Attack Factor (Primary/Secondary) and 7+ Morale

BTW, in Custom Battles the bonuses are bugged but it seems in the Campaign Battles, they are working fine, according to Lordula (the person who made "Make RTW Harder" utility).

You should note that on VH the battle AI is capable of executing ridiculous maneuvers i.e. charging a phalanx from the front with light cavalry and winning. I guess that's making up for the AI's obvious lack of tactical prowess.

Does putting campaign difficulty on VH make the AI build better units? If they do I think its worth all the rest of the crap you have to put up with.

The AI still loves its town militia units and peasants even on very hard.

Medium - No AI bonuses
Hard: 4+ Attack Factor (Primary/Secondary) and 4+ Morale
Very Hard: 7+ Attack Factor (Primary/Secondary) and 7+ Morale

Sounds convincing, but could you provide us with a link pls? Jerome Grasdyke confirmed the attack factor to us, but he said the morale factor is more complicated than that, so i dont believe your 4+ and 7+ Morale...
