I took a quick flight up to Montana for the 4th to spend it with my oldest brother and youngest brother, as well as my mom (I haven't seen any of them in almost 2 years). So I'm now on my brother's computer. I think independence day is a great day, especially because my family is fairly split conservatively and liberally, and we all stop for a moment to forget our differences and have a couple of beers and good food and celebrate that we have those rights (okay I celebrate that I have that right) but the fire works are good anyway.

Today's the 4th of July? One really does lose track of dates during holidays...

We could have fought better and you could have ended up like Canada, but enjoy your day, and revel in your burgers, and p*ss-watery beer... Have fun

Most countries don't know when it was "born".

For example England.

It could be when the Anglo-Saxons arrived.
Or when the first Anglo-Saxon kingdoms took appeared.
Or when Alfred the Great was king.
Or when England was united
Or in 1066.
Or when we lost all the French bits of the kingdom and only England was left.

For the Scots it could be way back when the Cruithne conquered the lands, or when the Scots made Dal Riada, or when they united in 829...

Well the French do dont they. Isnt Bastille day the equivolent of our 4th of july?

PS Notice it came after the founding of the US so we are older than France ~D

France has been a united country much longer than the USA, don't get too cocky there, because the USA is a VERY young country compared to many European countries.

Edit - Bastille Day is the traditional beginning of the French Revolution by the people against the absolutism and 'ancien regime' in France. They were already a country when that happened.

Has it? I could have sworn that the English and French fought quite few years over what was French and what was English over there. My point though is that the current French style government is younger than ours You could call it a new nation after its revolution just as we did. They however chose to keep the name of France.

I maintain that the French revolution was the beggining of a new France(nation)

However let us digress this is a birthday celebration and should not be about political matters Lord knows we have enough threads on that. My apologies for sidetracking the party.

Have a great day, guys.

July 4th is always a good time to reflect upon and renew your appreciation for a few of the things that make America great.

1) Multiculturalism

2) Freedom of expression

3) Women's low-rise jeans

Unfortunatly, in Ohio the only legal fireworks are "Sparklers, trick noisemakers & novelties". Lame.

Here in Police State New Jersey ( ~;) ) you can't legally have anything like that. To my knowledge. Not that that stops anyone. ~;)

Montana is great for fireworks, not many laws, except lighting them in forests or city streets. Also there is a general ban on Roman Candles and Bottle Rockets, but it doesn't matter, you can find all that good stuff on Indian Reservations anyway (also the Police don't really care what you have anyway as long as it isn't dynomite or some other deadly explosive device.)

Because...
...
It didn't rain here!
...
It is a tradition (~;)) here in the Pacific Northwest that it should rain on the Fourth of July, even if the second and third are sunny. Now the tradition is broken (a political deal, maybe?)?

About bans on fireworks: it is very clear, from the vast majority of people who buy fireworks in spite of bans, that the laws are being forced on the people, and are not wanted by the majority. Also, the police are often not really concerned about fireworks on the 4th either, they are more interested in drunk driving, and other things which occur year round.

ahh.. its good to be in florida where its all legal. ~:)

Btw, sparklers can be cool and made into mini bombs.

step-by-step directions

1.get wood stick sparklers
2.get around eight(or more) or them
3.hold them together and put wick in the middle(in the flammable side)
6.tape them together with electrical tape very tightly and multiple times, covering the ends.
7.light the wick and run.

This makes a pretty big explosion.

Be careful though, ~
