I would like your comments on the changes I made. I assume honour level is morale. Does anyone know for sure and why it's not labeled morale? Thanks

I have made some recent changes. I feel the units are more balanced and/or more realistic. Remember these are the base values. Most of these units will grow stronger with Dojo upgrades. So units like Naginata Cav will gradually get weaker in comparison to units that are upgraded, because Naginata Cav has no Dojo upgrade to keep up.

Also, honour level must be morale, which affects routing and rally.

What do you think of NO-DACHI Samurai now?

I am considering reducing the space between the men in all the units.
I know some people have all ready tried this.
I would like to get everyone's opinion on this.

Thanks.

I reduced the space between men side to side, not front to back.

I felt they were too spaced out and took up too much map space.

I didn't change front to back spacing because they look ok, plus I didnt want them shooting each other in the back of their heads.

toranaga,

one thing to watch on the spacing is, can your other men still walk thru that unit. i tried tightening the spacing quite close one time and other units couldnt get thru.

I did some research, and according to Dr. Steven Turnbull's book "Samurai Warfare" Yari ground troops were spaced one man width apart.

The closest I could put them was a value of 65.

Anything lower than that, troops passing through them can get stuck.

The settings I have all the troops at now seem to be as close as possible to historical accuracy without causing movement problems.

Well just FYI, the side-to-side distance in the Real Deal mod is 55-- I had gone for this figure because it is accurate and it is the minimum without having troops dancing around constantly. 65 is not significant enough a difference from 75 IMO.

Men being able to pass through the unit was never a concern when I was setting this up, because it just doesn't seem to me that a guy SHOULD be able to or should even TRY to pass through a formation of spears. Seems like a silly idea to me.

I agree with you 100 percent Matt, but when I had the value at 60, during a test, a man got permanently stuck in another unit.
Raising it to 65 prevents this and even cavarly can move much better through a ground unit in close formation.

But to be historicaly accurate, 55 would be ideal. When you tell the men to engage at will they usually clump together like they did in real life anyways.

Reducing it from 75 to 65 helps without causing movement problems. Its a trade off.

I have constantly been tweaking this file.

I really like the changes to them, especially Spearmen,Naginata and No-Dachi, even if they are only subtle ones.
