Patch question...

how many times, in you peoples expierence, have patches been released to the general public in beta form?

I don't play too many games, but I've only seen it once before - and in that example we never got beyond the beta http://www.totalwar.org/ubb/frown.gif

Hi Whitey,

I can answer this one. CA can only officially release patches after they have been aproved by EA's testing program. That means, that after a patch has been released, it can take 6 to 12 weeks before they can release it. And also, that 1.01b patch really wasn't finished. But it made a lot of sense to realease it at that moment, because otherwise at this moment we would all still be playing the original game.

The final version of the patch is now imminent, will be called a beta version too, because otherwise we wouldn't see it before the end of the year.

Two of my favourite games had beta patches released - Combat Mission (the beta TCP/IP patch) and Panzer Elite (beta 1.08 patch). In both cases it was a good decision as the 'final' patch much improved the game. Can't say what will happen with MI/WE however...
