Right i have a good few shite films i have seen over the years:

The Bruce: Biopic of Rob the Bruce and is quite frankly awful and painful to watch

DareDevil: the worst comic book film in my opinion, total shite

The Sin Eater: Sweet Christ did this one suck. bad acting, bad dialogue, bad film

The Village: You either love or hate this film and i hate it. Pure crap and one of the only films that i nearly slipped into a coma in the cinema watching it.

Revolution: Pile of steaming arse that is famous purely for almost ending Al Pacino's career.

There is no doubt many more, Jaws the Revenge ( terrible, a shark roaring had me in laughing but not in a good way), love actually( Oh God please someone shoot Curtis before he does another film like this), etc

Yeah but its no coincidence that Ben Elton (though I hate the guy) came in for series 2 and THEN it began to get funny. Series 1 was awful. I'd wager heavily that he wrote all the best stuff.

DareDevil: the worst comic book film in my opinion, total shite Affleck is not Daredevil, he's a goofball. Hulk is just as bad as Daredevil IMO.

Anything directed by Kubrick. I despise him for A Clockwork Orange.

Requim for a Dream:

Napoleon Dynamite: I am of the right age to love that movie (all my friends do) why do I get the urge to murder the person who made it?

Mulholland Drive: No point, the best part were hot lesbians.

The Rules of Attraction: See above, without the lesbians

Dumb and Dumber: I hate dumb movies. This is the definition of dumb movies.

That covers what I have right now,

Series one was very bad. Blackadder was just a stupid coward, not funny. You are right when you say it got better when Ben Elton came in (and Rowan Atkinson left the writing part).

You are missing a huge point with the Blackadder series.

As Blackadder station falls in life from Prince to Lord to Butler to Captain he gets smarter, wittier and more capable at doing things. It is a swipe at aristocracy.

Buldrick on the other hand never improves. Ever.

Really?

A Clockwork Orange is pure genius. Are you including Full Metal Jacket, Dr. Strangelove, Paths of Glory, and 2001 in your criticisms?

I thought Requiem for a Dream was startling. Very disturbing, very engrossing. Hard to watch and harder to look away.

What makes you put Requiem for a Dream as one of the worst?

As Blackadder station falls in life from Prince to Lord to Butler to Captain he gets smarter, wittier and more capable at doing things. It is a swipe at aristocracy.

In series one, Blackadder is simply an incompetent, stupid coward. His character is simply not funny. In series two, his character is dramatically changed (as even the writers admit) to make him much more intelligent and cunning. In series three and four he becomes slightly more intelligent and cunning, but the main change in character is between series one and two.

Series one is widely regarded as rubbish.

Buldrick on the other hand never improves. Ever.

To be honest, Baldrick probably gets more stupid if anything (in series one he is more intelligent than Blackadder, IMO)

Do you really believe that? It was just poorly written and not funny, and they had no idea what to do with the character. His evolutions between the subsequent series was not as great as that, infact he barely evolved at all. I personally thought Blackadder peaked at wittiness in series 3.

Ian i agree about shawshank, it is simply a masterpiece but i'm not sure about the butterfly effect, the bit that entertained me was when he lost his arms but apart from that ~D

Blair Witch Project, I rented it and only watched it for 15 minutes or so, terrible.

I love Starship Troopers, but I guess you have to 'get' it, it's incredibly funny. (note that I don't mean you need a certain level of intelligence to get it, or know about certain things, or imply anything else insulting)

Requiem for a dream wasn't especially bad, it certainly had its moments.

Hulk was bad, but it did also have Jennifer Connoly, which is what kept me watching ~D

"king arthur" was so bad that I cannot think of a worse film at the moment. I really regret seeing that. I was sharing hangover with my best friend and we decided to go see it. Afterwards we had to clear our heads of that terrible film so we went straight back in to see the next one . The next film was "before sunset". I now regard "before sunset" as a great film.

Blackadder: I like to see it as a gradual transformation in the intelligence field. Blackadder becomes increasingly clever whilst declining in social statues whilst Baldrick just becomes more and more stupid. You can trace it throughout the series.

Marcellus

Got to agree with you there.

Blackadder: I like to see it as a gradual transformation in the intelligence field. Blackadder becomes increasingly clever whilst declining in social statues whilst Baldrick just becomes more and more stupid. You can trace it throughout the series.

In series one, Blackadder was so stupid that even Baldrick was more intelligent than him.

In series two onward, Blackadder is very sly and intelligent. This change is what made series two onward so much funnier than series one. It wasn't a 'gradual transformation' - it was a complete character change, as the writers themselves admit.

Ah ha! I think of worst I think as my most hated, not worst as in just bad films. Most any film has some redeeming value. Kubrick's work and Requim for a Dream I suppose they have some value, but I just cannot get past how much I hate them. I suppose they did what the directors wanted them to. Actually, I wonder if Reqium for a Dream would not be bad as part of schools "Drugs are bad M'kay" teaching policy. Sure as hell scared me. 2001 is comotose inducing. Maybe it is because I grew up watching TV, reading, you know, interesting things happening, but I can't sit for hours with nothing happening. I just need to read the darned book for that one.

I just don't like Full Metal Jacket. Maybe he was trying to show that wars are bad, maybe he was trying to show how wars actually are, I don't know. But I just can't stand to watch it.

Dr. Strangelove I've seen too long ago to comment on that, I just remember it being really stupid.

But I also notice you did not mention "Eyes Wide Shut". Any reason for that? ~;)

And I just looked up Paths of Glory. Never heard of that one before so I can't comment.

In terms of worst for lack of entertainment value, I have to go with Napoleon Dynamite. At least with Reqium, Dumb and Dumber, and Kubrick's work (now how many people would put those three in a list together?) I was entertained, at least a bit. But Napoleon Dynamite was just insulting.

And am I showing my lack of culture if I don't know what the heck Blackadder and Baldrick are? Sounds like something from Half-Life.

King Henry V, I must say, usually I agree with you (how many of Kubrick's films do critics just go orgasmic over?), but there are some acclaimed ones that I like too. Shawshank comes to mind (probably because I just read it here), also American Beauty, Gladiator.

And what is with the King Arthur bashing? The film was more full of holes than my battle strategy for MTW (right now, I just started playing it) but still, it was vaccuous entertainment. Like a chick flick. But people died. Which makes it better. Right?

Azi

yeah, I noticed that from series two on it was blackadder that was clever and baldrick who was stupid.

It must have been my imagination but I definitely felt that Blackadder of "goes Forth" was the cleverest Blackadder whilst the Baldrick from the same series was the stupidest Baldrick of them all.

That's just how I like to remember it.

Curse the writers for saying otherwise.

Marcellus

Blackadder did get smarter as the series went on, and Baldrick did get more stupid. But between series one and two, these changes were dramatic, and saved the programme.

Oh comon. Eyes Wide Shut wasn't bad at all. I thoroughly enjoyed it. The way it was filmed is flawless and the story is interesting. Yeah it's slower then most blockbusters out there but it's Kubrick man. All his movies are like that.

The one movie I despise, Mulholland Dr. I didn't hate because of the story but because of the way it was filmed, it looks to real and too lame. And the gay thing, that came out of nowhere. What the hell?!? And what's with the magician?!?! What is he suposed to be. Lame! EWS and Mulholland might seem similar at first glance, but one is far superior IMO.

I've seen bad movies on TV/DVD, but the worst one I've seen in the theatres has got to be "Star Wars: Attack of the Clones". I was fortunate enough to not pay for "Phantom Menace" (saw it when it came on TV, so I still wasted 3 hours of my life on it...). Oh, and Cable Guy too. That was terrible. Most of the recent Bond films have been dire as well-Bond spends 18 months in a Korean prison camp in Die Another Day! What a horrendous mischaracterisation, Sean Connery would have broken out in about four seconds and shagged 2 women during the process.

I also thought that that was weird. I do wish Connery was still the Bond, even though he's a bit too old. Not that Brosnan is bad (better than that wus Moore, or Dalton, or the other jokers), but he isn't Connery. I think there is going to be a new Bond soon... they had better be good.

the 1988 "DUNE" movie was terrible. It was confusing and cumbersome. You almost had to read the book to know what was going on. The TV series was much better though.

I am shocked, shocked and outraged that nobody has named the worst movie of all time. The towering achievement, the pillar of failure, the career-wrecking monument of hubris and coked-up idiocy, the epitome of all that is wrong and bad in Hollywood, the unclimbable mountain of ineptitude known as ...

Showgirls!

There is not a Plan 9, not a Manos Hand of Fate, not a Santa Claus Conquers the Martians that can stack up against this steaming heap of manure.

Did any of those other films feature incomprehensible lesbianism? Epileptic pool sex? Dance sequences that are so awful as to cause spontaneous soft-drink-through-nose syndrome? A gratuitous and tasteless rape scene? Unfunny jokes involving chimpanzees? Character developemnt expressed through nail polish? I think not!

If you don't think Showgirls is the worst movie ever made, it's only because you haven't looked at it carefully enough. The sheer density of failure makes it a unique and inspiring gem of awfulness. In every frame of every scene, everyone involved with the film is making the worst possible choice. The script is awful, the acting is awful, the lighting, the directing, the sound -- everything's bad! Constantly! And what's more, it cost tons of money, so the failure is all the more beautiful. Anyone can make a terrible B-movie, but it takes a certain genius to make a thoroughly incompetent film with a professional cast and crew.

I will brook no argument, tolerate no dissent. Anyone who disagrees must go watch Showgirls immediately, and worship at the spangled feet of its badness. Go forth. Behold the worst film of all time. Seek wisdom in its failure.

P.S.: The same director made Starship Troopers, which I like. Best riff on Leni Reifenstahl (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Leni_Riefenstahl) ever.

Showgirls is also the only movie in existence that would have been better if it featured LESS boobies, that alone is quite an accomplishment.

It just might be the worst movie ever made, technically speaking, but it's still more entertaining than some 'better' movies.

drone, Attack of the Clones wasn't great, but there are far worse movies. There are definitely worse movies, that's just the worst I've paid for in a while. ~:)

Ah, "Showgirls". They should have either made a real movie or a porn flick, instead they got a bad combination of both (crappy plot and no hardcore). Although, you have to give them credit for realizing how bad it was, the DVD boxed set is pretty funny.

I especially liked that part of the description:

"The Greatest Movie Ever Made" (!!!): a commentary by David Schmader, with video commentary on the strip-club dance scene by the girls of Scores
