Probably who made that map didn't know of the already-existant green and was enthusiastic about it. http://www.totalwar.org/ubb/biggrin.gif

I think it is provided by CA together with the patch right? The terrain is different too I think.

the TEXTURES ARE DIFFERENT! this is VERY important!

also everyone who has 1.02 has ironing board, where as they don't all have green, if that's anything special.

OK all,

Here's the difference as I understand it. Yes both of them are flat. Green was created by Rob as a proof of concept on a map editor he was working on roughly a year ago. The Ironing Board is a flat map used by the developers for internal testing.

It is also important to note that wle_largeFlat_1 is also a flat map and was created by "The Daimyo" for use as a template for large maps using the X-pack editor.

I have even created a set of flat templates for each size map that include the deployment zones for all armies that I use when building a map as well as a small flat map with with various texture changes at 1 tile intervals for checking ranges. I also know that Kraellin has a similar map.

I have to admit that I'm a bit curious to know what the big deal about flat maps is. Is it just about whether or not they're different? Or is there something else going on here?

Never argue with an idiot. They drag you down to their level, then beat you with experience.

Since migrating to flat maps, there are less cases of sprained ankle during drills reported from my MO http://www.totalwar.org/ubb/tongue.gif
