Edit in WordPad or MSWord or somesuch, and save as plain text = problem solved.
Or, you could go into DOS, and use the editing program there. It also has no size restriction.
Matt
The problem with the map descriptions is that for some reason, even if you paste the text for new maps in, it doesn't show up when you check the map description online, which is the only place I've seen it show up.

[/QUOTE]So whats the point in doin it then?
Got me Shoko!
I think it is supposed to work, but it may be referencing some internal file that lists the maps before looking for the map_descriptions.txt file for the actual description. That would explain why whenever I check the description it always returns a "no map description available" even though I know damn well that I put it in there and that the format is correct.
Maybe Target can enlighten us on this if he happens to stop by.

guys,
there is only ONE file and one file only that holds ALL the map descriptions in that one file. you have to edit that. this is why that even if you edit your file, others online cant see this cause your edits are only on your computer and not theirs. the daimyo tried to do a project once to get all these map descriptions updated frequently, but it was just a pain in the *ss and was dropped.
hopefully, in M:TW, they'll fix map descrips and starting positions to the map files themselves and save all this.

Krae,
I know that there is one file; the Map Descriptions.txt file in the .../loc/eng folder. My point is that I've added descriptions for my own maps in there and even then, the description won't show up when playing.
That's why I was wondering if there was a hidden file we can't edit that contains a list of the maps that references the descriptions.
If you aren't having problems pulling up your custom map descriptions let me know, it may turn out that I am missing something.

obake,
oh. ok. my bad.
um, i'm not sure then, and not sure if this is what's going on or not, but if you dont have a copy of the map in 'battle\maps' and only have it in 'savemaps', it wont show online. is this what's going on?
and as for shoko's original question, khan7 answered it. so i guess i've not encountered what yer talkin about, obake. if map descrips show up for the original maps online and new edits into the maps.txt file dont show up online but the map does, then i'd say there's a formating mistake in the edit somewhere, but that's just a guess. i really have played with this so i dunno.
there was a thread or two about this a while back. you might try those and see if someone else ran into this and had a solution.
