View Full Version : Have you completed the full campaign with all factions?
I'm just wondering if anyone has really finished it entirely. Full campaign = control 50 provinces and either outlast or destroy the Senate.
Yes, with the exeption of Numidia in Vanilla version. Now starting to RTR 5.41 as Rome. Having war on 3 fronts. Dacian to the ast, Carthage to the south and holding off the Gauls to the north/west. In my 30th year now and still waiting for the Marius Events to happen.

My goodness, did you autocalc everything, or how many hours do you spend on it a day? I'm already finding it a strain on my schedule to push the campaign forward 2-3 turns a day...
3-4 hours daily between dinner and bedtime. The whole day if I'm on off day and my wife is at work. Some on easy/easy setting especially the when I just bought the game (when it was released). Well if my armies are much larger (like 3:1) ratio I always auto resolve.
What else ? Hmm... Anyway when it was released back then my pc was not quite to spec so I played with small units.
Only now I played with large/huge units.

I haven't finished it....
I almost finished with Julii, can't wait to finish, although I have to play many hours from now on.....
Also, I completed Medieval many many times and even with mods....
RTW is really a great game only modded, so that's why I've started learning to mod it... ~D

No, it's too long and boring. Only did it with a couple Hellenic and the Julii factions.

yeah i did it with MTW too. mostly the special campaigns where you had to get glory and stuff. i managed with spain to get 120.000 a year. a lot of money but it was almost only trade. i had taken the richest countries plus some that werent so rich a the start but would get later (cuz trade became available be a event)
with RTW i once managed to ge 1.4 billion cuz i made 100 million a year by protectorates (imagine the corrupcy) its to boring, to play for long.
i dont know if i can say it. but i've played some EB campaigns and it really rocks!!! (dont ask questions about it)

I played Germania until the end, Carthage, Scythia and Greece until I had the majority. If you are too strong it is boring!

I played the Julii until the end in my first campaign, played carthage until I'd captured Rome, I've probably started a campaign with almost everyone.
Then loaded up RTR 5.4.1, and I must have started about 5 campaigns as various people but never finished them, its not that I don't like the game its just ermmm.. well....

Scipio - complete (50)
Greek (short) - complete (killed macedon and thrace)
Seleucid - in progress (14 provinces, ready to rock)
Britannia - in progress (36 provinces)
Egypt, Carthage - starting
Julii - played for testing purposes
So i havent even touched the Gauls, Germans, Parthians, Brutii or any of the minor factions.
In Medieval, there were also 4 major factions i havent touched.
I find that most people take too much time trying to perfect:
- their governors (ancillaries and so on, some things are just random at the end of the day, so why worry?) and
- their settlements (squalor, specializing buildings when there's abundance in cash)
i know because i used to be like that. Now i simply split my family into 2 camps: governor or general. I build what i need/can, doesnt matter really, and focus on the battles.
Boring battles, or those facing 1-100 men on the other side, auto-calc.
Hope the AI gets its act together and resist you. If you play version 1.2, do not reload! Simply end turn...
and dont forget player1's bug-fixer, it adds to your gameplay experience.

Well i played Shogun to the absolute death and still do occasionally (the map looks so bare!). Same with Medieval, i completed that with most factions and then played lots of GA games. With Rome ive finally got into the MP aspect. Im spending more time on that now so the campaigning has gone out of the window. Ive only completed it with the Romans. For some reason the SP campaign just doesnt seem to have the replay value of MTW. Im not sure why, cant put my finger on it, surely it should have more if anything. Once i get into the other factions i may be proved wrong.

I have won with Cathage once, only 15 province victory.
Once I have become the superpower it gets boring and repetitive.
Stupid AI ruins every battle with that damned single line. Where is the reserve formation?
Sieges are boring, ram though gates and seige towers/ladders to get over walls.
With MTW I could play the same campaign again and again and it was always fun.
Maybe it was the political situation. In RTW, Rome is supposed to win. In MTW, noobdy is supposed to win, instead modern countries are formed and everything is setup for the age of empires.

I think I finished 2. I finished most factions with MTW but probably not all.

You should check out DarthMod, he has done a whole bunch of tweaking to the formation files. The AI never uses the single line anymore, it's usually in a double line or more. Even better, he pretty much fixed the suicide generals. The AI general will sit in the back for most of the battle, usually until it's needed. It still is a little bit suicidal at times, but nowhere what it was like in vanilla. (Here's the link: http://www.twcenter.net/forums/forumdisplay.php?f=71)
Anyway, back on topic. I have not completed a single RTW campaign. I started one as the Julii in vanilla and at about 30 provinces my brother saved over my file. I gave the Gauls a shot, which was incredibly fun on vh/medium. I lost that campaign when I installed RTR. I started up one as Rome, did a few battles, and uninstalled RTR. Now I downloaded DarthMod and started a campaign as Thrace, which I want to play through.
I`ve completed julii, Germania and Carthage. Soon I might be able to complete my ongoing Parthian campaign. Also I got some old saves that I might wake up to life and maybe complete.
But completing all seems impossible to me.
I finished lot's of campaign, maybe just because I am a bit stubborn ...

The poll needs more options, like "Working on it," which would be my answer. None of the ones there applies.
Completed in vanilla RTW:
Spain
Germainia
Julii
Scrapii
Brutii
Carthage
Numidia
Macedonia
Greece
Thrace
Pontus
Armenia
Seleucid
Partha
Started but didn't finish
Scythia
Egypt
Brittain
Never felt inclined to play
Gaul
Dacia
All wins on either VH/H or VH/VH. Several of the factions took multiple tries at stategy to find one that worked.
Recently installed the Extended Greek Mod and Mundas Magnus map/campaign. Have completed Macedonia and just finished the Greek campaign last night. Start Armenia and played the first 20 years. Going well so far but haven't fought anything but rebels. Stopped for the night when I hit the point of deciding what neighboring faction to attack.

Come to think of it, I've never done world conquest before. Always burntout before then, or had the sudden burning urge to try a drastically different way of fighting--phalanx, HA, you name it. Now I know why the Roman Empire didn't expand in 60 turns like we make it do.

I have completed the full 50 in the following factions:
Julii,
Scipii
Brutii
Egypt,
Greece, twice,
I have gone short campaign as
Brittania,
Carthage,
Gaul,
Parthians,
I was in the short game as Germania, and SPQR attacked me, and I attacked them back, fatally, and next thing I knew I didn't have to wait out the other faction, I had to take about 25 more territories. I will try again as Germania later, but will be careful not to wipe out SPQR.
Presently, I won the short campaign as the Selucids just last night. I like my results enough to keep going for SPQR and 50. I finally found something that seems to make quick work of Egyptian desert axemen, War Elephants! 81 to 57 almost instantly, and the rest shortly afterward.
I also have Parthia saved holding 33 territories, but found myself in a position of widespread plague. I might go back in there again later, but when I left click the "death stalks the land" icon, it almost makes ME throw up. As I said, it is widespread, and seems to be spreading, and has not gone away in about 20 turns. I am being careful not to send anybody into and out of any cities, but the plague goes on.

I have indeed completed it with all factions, except Numidia, because they're boring
I´ve finished te long campaign wit both Julii and Bruti and I´m now playing it with the Seleucids. It´s a good thing, in my opinion, that the campaign can be finished with 50 provinces and Rome taken, conquering all of the world like in Medieval would be tiresome. Of course, those who favour monochromatic maps can still go at it, but at least you´re not required to do so to win. Let´s be real, even in business, 50% of the whole market count as dominating it.

no , just as the Julii, Brutii and the SE.

well I always found Numidia to be a challenge, and therefor fun.
Although I've never finished a whole campaign though.

It seems that Numidia is not even an option to be played. I imagine that I need to tweak the system in order to do it. I would also like trying as the Scythians.

Nope! Still have Numidia, Parthia and Scythia/ Sarmatia left to play around with. For this reason I installed MMv2.0 (instead of RTR 5.4:1) since I like that map better for thoose factions. Has anyone finished MM with theese facs? Any tips/ hints/ strats?
In rtr 5.41 just starting maCedon , my Roman haven't finished (actually suppose to be finish , already got 60 provinces . The senate is still standing but I'm gonn alet them live until i get my marian reform. My roman are now in exciting stage of Punic war (Carthage now rules all Iberia but lost their main cities in Africa and Sicily (to me).
If I get the marian reform then I destroy the senate. If not , after the carthage is doomed , I'll set my eyes to the east. The lush golden sands of egypy and destroy the now so big Ptolemaic empire. Greeks, Dacian, macedon are gone (thanks to me) Seleucid, Armenians are gone thanks to egypt I guess.
They're so big and bordering me in asia minor but somehow they didn't attack me yet. (My house rules is never to initiate a war ).
Back to Macedon campaign .. hmmh.. great til now.. Have d/load 6.0 but havent installed it. Don't kinda like roman without senate. Well maybe I play other faction beside roman then...
