STW Remake

I think that STW should be overhauled. For one thing, they should replace the bland 2D sprites with Full 3D polygonal models. Also, troops like Cavalry Archers and Mongul Light Cavalry should be allowed to shot while galloping (not just standing still). One more thing they need to do is to have some sort of artillery.

in Sengoku era artillery used by japanese was confined to large caliber arquebus, they used them to shoot at walls,

they were not usefull against troops with an extereme low rate of fire and absolutely dreadfull accuracy

if you managed to hit the wall you aimed at it was cause for celebration.

Slight correction. Some European siege artillery did find their way to Japan (used by some of the richest daimyos), albeitly rare. One example would be the artillery used by Tokugawa during Tennoji.

Before the arrival of the Portugese, siege tactics consists of fire arrows, shields (not carried but placed on the ground), towers (stationary and not the moving types of RTW), mining and the typical infantry assault.

they are (more or less) at the end of the Sengoku period, but still, can you tell me what types of artillery he had?
i can find no specific references to types in the first dozen or so googled responses.

I remember reading that there was virtually no artillary used in SJ japan...however during a seige a ship (English, I believe) was asked by the beseiger to shell the town....which they did. Probably to get on the guys good side ~:)

In Shogun by James Clavell many of the Daimyo's are looking to purchase cannon but I don't see any mention of any of them purchasing a cannon or two.

Although it depends on how much you trust the book as legitimate.

I just hope ehy make a new Shogun like the RTW. I love war , I dont know much history but as a war buff, I would like to see the details and all battle actions and fights like the RTW or even the MKII. STW needs to be deeply rennovated with more capabilities. As a warrior its one of the greatest games ever.

the tw AI dosent work to well with atilary. I think one of the reasons i like shogun tw more than mtw is becous there is no atilary in stw for the ai to fail to use properly.

and you dont get groups of AI controlled warior monks just standing there as you hurl rocks at them from a distance where the ai just cant seem to understand its in your fiering range.

At first, Oda Nobunaga used some sort of artillery equipments that were imported from China. At the end of 1570's, he switched to Spanish cannons and such, because the long and boring campaign against the Mori clan was a fine series of shows of the drawbacks in using Chinese props. The first Oda man who bought European cannons was Kuroda Kanbei, although the credit usually goes to his boss Toyotomi Hideyoshi. They were both busy with the siege upon the inner defense line of the Moris' domain -- in which the new artillery was very useful.

Projectile incendiary mortar shells rendered all previously constructed Japanese military fortifications obsolete in a matter of years.
