Choose your favourite ~D

I personally like every kind except pistachio (sp?) and mint.

I hope this is popular, cos if you don't all like ice cream, I'd be worried ~;)

Caramel....sweet nectar of life...

Minty, chocolaty, and vanillay & orange sorbety ones are good too, but caramel is the one flavor to bring them and in the darkness bind them.

Semisweet chocolate, white chocolate, chocolate covered almonds, pecans—how can you not love this Ben & Jerry's perennial favorite? Give yourself an hour or so and you'll have a dessert to die for.

convert Ingredients
1/4 cup coarsely chopped white chocolate
1/4 cup coarsely chopped semisweet chocolate
1/4 cup chopped pecan halves
1/4 cup coarsely chopped walnuts
1/4 cup halved chocolate-covered almonds
4 ounces unsweetened chocolate
1 cup milk
2 large eggs
1 cup sugar
1 cup heavy or whipping cream
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
1 pinch salt

1. Combine the coarsely chopped chocolates, pecans, walnuts, and chocolate-covered almonds in a bowl, cover, and refrigerate.
2. Melt the unsweetened chocolate in the top of a double boiler over hot, not boiling, water. Whisk in the milk, a little at a time, and heat, stirring constantly, until smooth. Remove from the heat and let cool.

3. Whisk the eggs in a mixing bowl until light and fluffy, 1 to 2 minutes. Whisk in the sugar, a little at a time, then continue whisking until completely blended, about 1 minute more. Add the cream, vanilla, and salt and whisk to blend.

4. Pour the chocolate mixture into the cream mixture and blend. Cover and refrigerate until cold, about 1 to 3 hours, depending on your refrigerator.

5. Transfer the cream mixture to an ice cream maker and freeze following the manufacturer's instructions.

6. After the ice cream stiffens (about 2 minutes before it is done), add the chocolate and nuts, then continue freezing until the ice cream is ready.

So you can make it yourself...

Cherry is my favourite, with Strawberry and Coffee as runners up. Ben & Jerry's do a really nice cherry called Cherry Garcia, with big lumps of Cherry and dark chocolate. It's very good indeed, and also makes me think of the Grateful Dead, which is always a bonus.

I'm editing some of the irritating posts from this otherwise excellent thread.

Just killed my first container of Cherry Garcia last weekend. Pretty damned good. Not much on fruity ice cream usually, I much prefer chocolate with nuts and brownies and stuff. I like my chocolate ice cream to look like a beef stew.

Looking forward to trying Ben & Jerry's The Gobfather this weekend.

One container of B&J a weekend. Every weekend. It's $5.49 a shot here. Not cheap, but you get between two and four bowls per container depending on your mood so it's not that bad at all.

This weekend: The Gobfather

If I may go OT in TheSilverknight's thread, I'm curious as to what you do when eating your ice cream?

For my part, the Ben & Jerry's gets killed off while watching cooking shows on PBS on Saturday afternoon. Julia Child, Jacques Pepin, Charlie Trotter, etc. Nothing better than laying back on the couch, watching a few hours of cooking shows and eating lots of chocolate ice cream.

Call me crazy - but it is a moment in my life when I am perfectly happy. :saint:

And leftwing kooks from Vermont too! GASP! However, you might be interested in knowing that they came up with an eco-friendly freezer where the cooling agent was vodka...

Ben & Jerries is still the best. There are tons of flavors and if you want to go for cheaper fare since the factories are near here there are plenty of fudge-ups that sell for less. Though you never are sure what's going to be in the container. :inquisitive:

They didn't come up with it, a college (maybe U of Wisconsin, can't remember) did after B&J gave them money.

There's a dairy farm around here that sells for $1 for a half gallon. Real cheap. Haven't tried it, but I heard its real good.
