View Full Version : Lost CD's, need to buy more, which version should I get
I, a long time ago bought MTW by itself without Viking Invasion on it and when I bought Viking Invasion with MTW I lost my original. THen, my GF's kids wanted to play MTW so I gave them a copy and they lost it. My question is, I already have the Viking Invasion CD but I don't have MTW disk to install it.
My questions are;
1. How dumb am I for losing two great sets of cd's.
2. If I find / use a no cd patch / and use two different cd keys (One from the lost copy that I wrote down and a new one that I would buy, could we both play Viking Invasion?
3. Does Viking Invasion change anything at all in multiplay?
4. Or, do I have to buy a complete VI - MTW combo set - AGAIN.

Sorry to hear that, Budwise....
You have a dillema here. We are a respected forum, so no warez....
You have to buy it. You can buy the Battle Pack, much cheaper, and it contains both games. Next time, be sure to make backup copies, as I did, because my original CD's are so scratched, I can't play with them(they're from 2003!!!)....
I wasn't implying that I wanted to steal a copy of the game. I was actually just wondering about if I should spend the little extra money to get an extra VI disk or not.
Personally, I like using No CD patches just for the fact that I don't take care of shit in my house and I hate replacing CDs or using a Disk Doctor.

Warez means piracy software, that includes No-CD patches......
I think it's worth speding because MTW is really a great game.....
Once again, I will state this - AGAIN. NO CD are not ILLEGAL. YOU ARE ALLOWED TO HAVE THEM. IF YOU USED THEM FOR ILLEGAL PURPOSES THEY BECOME ILLEGAL BUT TO USE THEM JUST TO SAVE A CD THEY ARE LEGAL. THEY ARE NOT WAREZ!!! I ALREADY HAVE BOUGHT TWO COPIES OF THE GAME SO TECHNICALLY, I CAN DO THIS. I WAS JUST ASKING A QUESTION ABOUT MTW VI and I WANTED SOME ADVICE.
SO NO GUILT TRIPS PLEASE - I DON"T PIRATE SOFTWARE.

wow, that's a lot caps!
but anyway, you don't know anyone with the original mtw game discs? you could try contacting CA, but unless you have a proof of purchase, it probably wouldn't matter (i don't recall, is there a registration option for mtw?). without the original game discs to install mtw, i don't see how a no-cd would help you anyway.. i don't think i understand your situation.
i don't play mtw multiplayer, so i don't know about your question.
Naw, whats 10 dollars, I will just - BEING ALL PISSED OFF ABOUT IT - will go out and buy my third copy of the game. I just won't play VI with my friend online, thats all

The Battle Pack is only $20 as an option. But, your VI disk should work fine with any MTW disk as VI was sold on it's own as a Add'on.
Okay, I sometimes do that. Let me explain what I have
One VI expansion CD
I lost my two sets of MTW CDs
I wanted to know if I could play VI with a friend using only one CD of VI.
I guess not so I will just buy MTW - AGAIN - and install it on both computers BECAUSE I STILL HAVE MY CD KEYS + CASES FOR THE GAME and forget about VI online

oh i see (i think), well why not buy the battle pack, use the mtw cd-key for the new one on one computer and your old key on the other, and you'll have two copies of VI.

You're still going to need 2 copies of VI between the two of you (that is to say separately purchased, as opposed to an original plus a backup), simply in order to play versus one another over a LAN connection, or similar. That's because the VI CD has to be in the drive while the game is running.
That is why a no-CD patch is considered to be warez by the users of this forum, since it means you can do the same thing with one disc and CA loses another sale.
This is all set out in the EULA, by the way. Read these things carefully and you'll appreciate that none of us ever owns any software. What we paid for is merely the licence to operate it.
Two machines, two players, means you have to pay for two licences - in other words you and your friend need to buy a MTW+VI gamepack each.
Frivolous aside:- perhaps the kids didn't actually 'lose' the disc, they just enjoyed it so much they weren't ready to hand it back to you just yet... ~D
Not so frivolous aside:- they have the disc but you handed it over without its jewel-case? If so, expect it to come back scratched to b*****y, if it's been kicking around in their room for a while...
At the risk of withdrawal of GF privileges, ~;) ....you could always give them the stark choice of washing your car for a notional 2 bucks an hour until they've 'paid off' your loss (teach them a lesson to look after your things properly) or to quit mucking about, tidy their room and find the damn disc...

No speak of no-cd patches whatsoever, how legal they may be.
As said before, the game doesn't cost all that much anymore,
find it second handed on the internet, or go to a games store old-games-bin.
Good luck.
