Am I right in assuming that a map in the Map pack beginning with a T_ was designed by TosaInu?
Whatever the case may be I wanted to express my utter awe and wonder at the beautiful and moving map experience that is T_Yamashiro][.
I used it for the first time in a MP battle with my clanmate YagyuGaijin and was totally in agreement with his in game chat comment-
"pure map artistry".

Yes Tosa is one of the best map makers. He is a perfectionist and he would spend many hours makign a map unline me :P
He was also the one who started to make maps with the old demo editor and showed the path to other guys how to map.

Konnichiwa,
Thank you very much for your kind words YagyuKamiizumi, YagyuGaijin and theforce.
Yes I made that map. It's not specially made for online play though the map seems not to be so unfair as it looks first (Kraellin, Yuuki Yari and me played a 2 vs 2 there). It's one of the maps made for the Ikki scenario.

Hey, Tosa... what does the little 'HF' next to your name mean? Is it 'Have Fun'?!? http://www.totalwar.org/ubb/eek.gif

yup, the T_ designation before a map name means it's made by tosa. mine is K's_ i forget what obake's is. this is a system that tosa came up with to designate who made what on an instant recognition system and to help sort things out on the org pages and in the game and editor. works well.
tosa is indeed one the original map makers. he was the one that gave me my first entryway into shogun maps way back when. i've since surpassed him (*grin*), but yup, he's one of the original masters.
there's a number of very scenic maps on the .org for download. some arent all that playable because of how the game handles certain things, but they are nonetheless quite scenic and worthy of download.
the maps that originally came with shogun were also upgraded in we/mi. and some of those are quite beautiful also.
you might also try loading some of the maps up in winter. a little snow can enhance the scenery as well.
if you want to peruse the maps at a faster rate, call up the editor and view them that way. much faster than loading up game after game and you can get a better view of the entire map because you can go into all the impassable zones in the editor, where you cant in the game.
and, hopefully, in M:TW they will add even more textures and toys to play with to give us even a better ability to display mother nature and the works of man...sounds like a book title...mother nature and the works of man: a story of destruction...film at 9.
we're also hoping for more editing capabilities in other areas with M:TW. editing of the sprites would be great fun.
and just to toot my own horn, take a look at 'K's_Unzen Again'. it's my depiction of the Unzen volcano...sort of :) load it in the editor and you can climb up on the mountain.

The only absolute is that there are no absolutes.
Tosa is without a doubt the Once and Future King when it comes to map making for this community. Krae is the hands down Crown Prince.
We also need to make sure that we don't forget to remember Vanya and Tera in this group as well.
While I very much appreciate Krae's mention, the quantity of my maps is much lower than that of more prolific designers, but what I do have to offer will be recognized by the beginning of Ob_
What I enjoyed most was building the large maps to give everyone additional room. The biggest disappointment to me was that the deployment zones did not shift to take advantage of the extra room provided by these larger maps.
I sincerely hope that CA will remedy this for Medieval, especially since it looks like the maps will be even BIGGER!
I am truly looking forward to creating maps for the Medieval community, and further hope that we'll get more play out of them than we did with the Shogun community maps.

I didn't mean to leave anyone out. It is a rare occurence when I play on a map that isn't an original creation by or edited by our community's talented and dedicated technicians/artists. You guys deserve the utmost credit and appreciation. Can't wait to see your MTW creations!

You are too modest Obake m8 http://www.totalwar.org/ubb/smile.gif
Would be nice if you can customize the size and location of deployment zones when you make a new map... that way you could make some really wacky openning gambits... or at least ensure there is a dead zone between armies...

I couldn't disagree more with you Vanya... l have so much fun making a map for 3 hours to find out that the deployment zones were fucked up http://www.totalwar.org/ubb/frown.gif
Anyway that would be cool and it would save me and my PC from a lot of pain.

Great idea that...i once spent about 3 hours making a cool map but it was ruined due to the deployment thingy and then i couldnt be bothered doing it again http://www.totalwar.org/ubb/frown.gif

I have only made three maps. The first two plain reuse of old maps. The last (gf_norikosougen) was a large one from scatch. Spent three hrs b4 discovering the deployment zone problem.. and spent another 3 more to rework from scatch again http://www.totalwar.org/ubb/eek.gif
.. and no one even try that map. And I've stop making more.

Sorry to interject, but I just wanted to point out that apart from his maps one area that Tosa doesn't get the recognition he deserves is as a player.
I remember once a long while back seeing him on the server; I knew him from the dojo but I'd never played him before so I zipped out of the lobby and had a look at his record (it was fairly modest so I thought "I'll challenge this guy to a competitive game and probably crush him like a beetle") lol, live and learn: I am 0-5 against Tosa in 1v1, and my partner and I are 0-4 against him and his main-man Puzz3D.
In brief: besides being a certified "MAP GENIUS" the guy really plays a mean game of STW!
Extract from the history of Total War
It was early September 2000 when a small newbie called Terazawa made a site on Total War. A small newbie called Tosa Inu once came in what he first called "a custom map". The first custom map was born. (I think it was Magyarorsag)
Tosa, in collaboration with all the other Mizus have given to us what C-A only gave us with the release of MI...a map editing community.
Later on we me made custom full campaigns, custom hist. battles, and now even a custom hist. campaign!
Thanks Tosa & all others that have given us this! http://www.totalwar.org/ubb/smile.gif
