I actually did all my work yesterday.

It would be very helpful if folks could give a time frame as to “how long they will wait” in the foyer, whenever possible.

For example: I will be available in the foyer for a half an hour (or something).

And then stick to it.

Remember people have to see your post, boot up the game, go through the logon process.

And all of that, just to find you are not there? This gets old real fast!

lol seriously... I really miss the game and the people around. It's so frustrating I can't play now - now there's so many people around (even a 4v4 played).

I would give lots to get back. main thing I need to give is time, and find out how to fix the logging in problem.

if your really really desperate..

you could get an external hard drive.
And a copy of windows 98.

You could install windows 98 on to the external hard drive. (that would be fat32)

that would mean you have windows xp and all the progs that every 1 uses on the computer.
but when you boot up you could chose to boot up with windows 98. when you want to play shogun.

it would mean installing a few things on the windows 98 os, so you could get online.
but it should not be to difficult.

I usualy would not sudgest people buy an extra item of hardware just for a game.
But you seem to be having a lot of difficulty.
And wish to come play.

And i think that this way is the way which is most likley to work.

I'm first going to try what R'as proposed, I think. This will be next in line to try if I still can't login by that time.

A question on this, would it be needed to have the HD lying around here somewhere close to the comp all the time or could I be able to just 'plug in'?

external hard drives are usualy plug and play.
"usb"
and you usualy plug it in. and its there as a hard drive..

There are 2 ways windows can see these drives though.

1 is as a removable device.
(Probably would not let you boot up from a removable device, but CD's are removable and can be used to boot up your pc. so maby it would let you)

and the other is as a physical drive.

if its installed as a removable device, the hard disk will be truley plug and play.
with you being able to dissconnect it when ever you like.

if you install it so its detected as an actual physical drive.
you will haft to use the safley remove hardware function in windows xp to remove it.

In all honesty.
i dont know how well external hard disks cope with being the system's OS drive..

back in the days of windows 95..
I would have said there is no way you can install 95 on to an external drive and expect it to work,
due to usb drivers needing to be loaded by windows before the hard disk can be used by the pc.
Back then it would have been difficult if not near impossible to do.

I imagin that these short comings have been addressed by now.
But i cannot guarantee it..
So it would be a good idea to ask other people if its possible to boot up from an external (usb) hard disk.

Personally i would be Very dissapointed if they havent made it possible.

For those that dont know heres an explanation..

i run a network of 5 pc's
one of them is my "server". and i mean this quite literaly.
it runs web space.
and it runs fakeserve.

Both these things are on the Same pc...
and there for have the same Ip adress.
but thy are run on diferent ports.

now taking this in to concideration.
If the server pc is up and running.
the web server is up and running.
and there fore fakeserver is up and running...
So i added a pic to my web page that is held on the same server as fakeserv.
so if the web server is running. The page says my server is UP.
if its not running it says it is down.
The only problem is when i forget to hit Start on fakeserv.
(human error im afraid)

The rest is not importaint Its just an explanation of why the web page would be running and why fakeserve wouldnt.

the web server is a primary function of the server pc.
and there for i have set that as a system task. thats always running without me seeing it, (a bit like a trojan)

my ip referal program i use to give out a static ip for the server, also does the same.

so just turning on the pc = web server is backonline.

But with fakeserver i haft to click start. and i forget :(

We live in great times. After years of no STW server, we get a new fake server. We don't need to register, no need for a password, we can use any name and we don't have to look for our cd code. The server is hosted by a great computer specialist with a humble name like Just a Girl, and also hosts tournaments ! ~D

If youre using a router Kamii then I doubt you will be able to host! I plug my old dsl modem in to enable me to host then reconnect the router afterwards. You can join the fakeserver ok yeah?

Cha is right, sometimes the log out doesn't work properly, resulting
in Ghosts taking up the space. When you try to log in with your name
and that name is already a foyer Ghost it won't work.
I kicked both of you, Cha and Trajanus, this morning at 8:00 GMT+2 and restarted the fakeserver.
I assume that neither of you was really logged in at the time, cause I've seen
both names 10-12 hours prior to that.

Yeah. When someone drops out of the foyer for any reason, his name remains there, with a different color. (grey) From that moment to the moment R'as kicks that name, you can't login with it. It will give you a warning something like: 'Have you created an account at www.totalwar.com?'

hi new member, have recently started play shogun total war again, was wondering whats the deal with the stw community? ive been in out and the foyer a few times over the last few days and only once have i cam across 2 other players on one occasion, i realise that ideal of the thread is to let others know ur on online, and not complain. but wouldnt be better if a player posted their gmt and the times or days they are likely to play? i dunno...

im pretty much online everyday, im generally online 5pm - 12 sunday-monday, and 5pm - 4am tuesday - saturday. not to say that im online 100% of stated time, just stating when im generally available to play,

Btw, R'as, have you been in touch with Tomi over the last couple of months? It would be absolutely great if we would retry the 'Clan Wars Competition' again. This would surely bring back some people, and bring them together.. it's a matter of being able to play games to keep intrest, so we need something to start it up again. Last time the CWC was unfortunately cancelled, but it brought back lots of people on SOS.

Hello Kamiizumi,

I'm sorry that it shut down. Most probably, looking at the time of your post, it was time to reconnect. The machine running the server is on dsl, the provider cuts the connection every 24 hours, but the machine reconnects immediatly. This results in all fakeserver-connections being cut off. 1 min later you should've been able to connect again.
I also sometimes just restart the server when I have the impression that some name got stuck in the lobby, but I don't do that at that time of the night.
Bottom line, just try to reconnect 1 or 2 mins later and it should be fine.
I'll post any major maintenance downtimes here.

You'll get used to using the fakeserver. :smile:
BTW, no CD-key or Password needed. Just leave it blank.
If you want, you can edit the changes.txt in Main folder/loc/Eng (or other language) and edit the familyname. For excample one could add "47 Ronin" and choose Drisos as first name. Voila Drisos 47 Ronin. :smile:
Failed logins are quite normal, you sometimes need several attempts.

Tonight, although it was meant to be my first game online no one appeared.
I thank ShinGai-Jin (this one, what does it mean helpful friend - your name?) for keeping me on a hope road.

When you see the posts after a while, and don't pay attention to the time of the posting, you loose the picture of minutes and hours, days and months passing by ... You take the text for granted, the presence...of ones wannabe identity.

So, I must now express my bitterness. I truly feel as after a huge battle - the only wounded survivor. STW MP is almost dead. It kicks slowly from time to time and it's hard for me to admit it and say it. Only facts can prove me wrong and facts listen to a different logic.

Drisos tried the same revival (I dream of) with much more intensity. He managed to make some waves. But know is again very quiet on the battlefield.

I only showed that I wanted to play, proved my poor english laughable, and made fool of myself talking to noone like one madman in the public square.

Don't worry I'll survive! I just thought that you can achieve your dreams even after passing them by indifferently at the right time. The right time was 6-7 years ago.
And, don't worry. This is my way with things: I sometimes see them very black even if there are not so black.

I am still available for Shogun online since in SP the game doesn't appeal me anymore. I've consumed this side of it.
Post, Mail me, PM me, whatever, newbies and vets, when feel like playing!
I think I deserve my tour of honour.

Although it was composed of two beatings served by Shin Gai-Jin at a quarter of his speed and a elegant bridge defending close victory, courtesy of the same Shin Gai-Jin, my baptism in STW MP is now consumed.


It was worth all the pain and suffering between these deserted threads I can guarantee that.

I've moved to Samurai Warlords and managed to play some games. There, a small community persist and plays on Sundays, 19.00 GMT.

Edit: It was great "meeting" you in the foyer tonight redbloof, though we weren't able to play without a host. I'm jazzed that you have ordered MTW-VI, and will be joining us in Samurai Warlords! Let me know when the game arrives and I will assist you with the install, patch, and mod installation if needed. Then we can get to some playing and practicing. Hopefully someone will show up here that can host, and we'll play some STW online too.

To potential STW MI v1.02 hosts who want to play: we are both USA East, EST. I am usually around in the evenings during the week, and can play after 7 PM. I'm afraid virtually no one has been playing lately. The last wave of activity was in 2006, I think. The servers being shutdown, Clans moving on the MTW, many people having difficulties logging in to fakeservers on Windows XP, too few people left to keep a stable population, ... Those factors killed it off, I guess.
Shogun is still an amazing game with amazing multiplayer potential, but there's nothing we can do to revive it, I'm afraid. It's sad. :(

I've been unable to log in for the last 1,5 year now. Recently picked up some new idea's that might solve the problem, but still working on those. If I get back in business, we might end up playing a few games, someday. I'll be around. ~;)
