Do any of the over 30's remember these games? And do any of them believe, like me, that they were the archaic precursors to such games as the Total War series?
Or...scarily am I the oldest guy here? *sounds of tumbleweed blowing across the desert*.

Played 'em both on a 'rubber mat' spectrum. 1984 I think it was. Remember the paper overlay you got with the game? you were well and truly snookered if you lost that paper LOL.
This game was the reason I bought a computer in the first place. My mate had one and we used to go round to his house to play it...after a week or so I decided to buy a 'speccy' to play myself.
There is at least one other patron from these boards who played it....Imorthorn I think his name is (wonder where he got that from ;-) )
BTW theres a windows version...

Yup, I noticed Imorthorn (the Fey). Now the names are just flooding back, Shareth the Heartstealer, Tarithel, Rorthron, Luxor, Vangrad the Icelord, skulkrins etc Good times...

Rorthron is utterly invigorated!
"A.P.Taglione", aka Tag, who wrote the original demo and much of the rendering code for Shogun and Medieval, also wrote the game loader and associated protection system for "Doomdark's Revenge". Now there's trivia for you.

And 80s strategy game legend R.T.Smith (Arnhem, Desert Rats, Torch, Ancient Battles) is also a CA programmer ~;)

I played Lords of Midnight on my old C64.
Unfortunately the old casette player you pluged in to load games up was bust and wouldn't save games - I finished it only once in one massive 18 hour sitting.
As for throwing the Ice crown in the lake *pffft* that Morkin (?) fellow never got further than 5 yards before Doomdarks forces leapt out from behind a bush and strung him up from a tree. I had to storm Doomdarks citadel, which I still count as probably the greatest acheivement of my life.
And paper overlays!?! you speccy users had it easy - I had a manual and I LEARNT the keys :book:
Its amazing that after 10 or 15 years I could still find my around Midnight, and talk about it all day.....
