View Full Version : More moderators for Hosted Mods?

At the moment barocca is the only real moderator in the Hosted Mod section. There are other moderators but they are modders who are given abilities like stickying and merging for the purpose of keeping a clean modding forum.
Lately I read more and more flames and insults, particularly in the EB forum and the moderators there don't seem to feel responsible for moderating the responsible ones. So it is almost a free zone for slinging mud.
Barocca did take out one thread and now I see he also moderated another one, but I believe it would be better if one of the other modding moderators could help out. Not that they need to read every thread, but if PMed by another member they can take action.

No  I am just trying to point out something as I don't want to see the Hosted Mods section to be of less quality than the rest.

I browse through the RTW Hosted Mods anyway to see how they're going, so I'd be happy to take this on if the admins felt there was a need.

I can manage the CTW sub-forum, but I don't have the time for anything else. Anyway CTW hasn't gotten any bad behavior so far.

Why not just give the mod leader the power to delete, edit in their own forum.

They already have, but there are still cases where moderation wasn't done. The Org moderators are picked for being good at keeping the peace. Mod leaders are primarily good at modding.

I'm afraid DJ was suggesting that the existing modding moderators should take more of an interest. Not that we need a new moderator solely for the purpose. As has been mentioned, most mod teams take care of their own housekeeping (stickying etc.) so a moderator would just be there to help out barocca in case things got out of hand.

No, I think that one or two exisiting moderator(s) should more actively try to keep the peace at the Hosted Mods section. Of course modders have benefit when their modforum is friendly and enjoyable, but I have seen some modders flame a Org member, who critized a part of the mod. Modders are members of the Org and they need to follow the rules and creating things for free doesn't give you any freedom for insulting or flaming. And that danger exists when mod forums are almost exclusively moderated by the modders themselves.
Of course the modders should take more interest as they probably read all the interests. For example this post: https://forums.totalwar.org/vb/showpost.php?p=850543&postcount=25
I would have immediately deleted the whole post if it were posted in the Sengoku Jidai forum, but the EB modders apparently think more freely.

Maybe a solution could be to reconsider the mods of every particular mod subforum so that one of them is the team leader and the other one is more of a law enforcer... (ya know, some clubbing... :knight: :smash: )

post edited,
just checked my inbox, no-one reported a bad post,
c'mon guys, spare a dime for an ageing vet....

By the way, I reported a bad post a few days ago via the little warning button below a posters profile. A few days later the posts were edited. Was that your work, barocca, and because of the reported post?

If anything gets out of hand in the CTW forum I will delete it, thankfully we have not had any issues over there.
I think the Hosted Mods forum is a bit big for one moderator to handle so if things get out of hand there should be a person from each mod team who can be trusted to enforce the Org rules. Maybe the mod leader at EB should be talked to and encouraged to take a more active role in enforcing the Org rules.

I would like to volunteer for this task. I already spend alot of time in the EB forum any way...and i have seen most of the major flame wars...

Khelvan said that for some reason he couldn't lock threads anymore...

Threads shouldn't be locked if one person steps out of line.

Um, ok. My point was, he says he can't use his moderator powers, which allowed that whole RTR and EB thing to get out of line.

khelvan couldn't edit or lock threads because for some reason he fell off the list of moderators for that forum (check the listing at the bottom of that page). The EB team has two other members with moderator powers for that forum, Aymar de Bois Mauri and The Wizard. khelvan should PM Tosa to find out what happened to his mod powers and get them restored. I imagine Tosa doesn't know why he fell off the list either.
I only visit SJ forum and so never see that kind of garbage luckily. why don't the other modders get modding abilities so they can keep the forums up theirselves?
like duke john does.. that goes well, so...

They do, look at the moderators listed at the bottom of the page of each one of the Hosted Mods.

?
Then why don't they make sure there is no such garbage? I don't get it.
In this case we only need to make sure the modders take action. PM them all? :dizzy2: They should already know what to do.....

To be honest, Aymar is mostly away, and after I was given mod position in the EB forum (with limited abilities -- no closing and no editing of posts; only stickying) khelvan was removed off of that list. He had full local moderator powers, but since he is no longer a moderator in our public forum, he cannot do anything about flames etc, just like me.
Edit: Never mind. I have powers of closing after all. It just works a bit differently than I'm used to from other moderating experiences.
