It's the 1981 six part BBC TV series. About three hours long. A second DVD is full of extras, outakes, deleted scenes, making of, and an interview with Douglas Adams.

Can't wait! Going to have me a beer and lie in bed tonight with the headophones on and watch this gem.

The radio shows on BBC have proved enjoyable recently, perhaps I should find these DVDs. Heck, I might have them lying around on video someplace.

Just get the CDs of the original radio series. They're the best. Although the TV version was very good.

I watched most of the first episode last night. Great stuff. Dry British humour, and absolutely true to the book.

Can't wait for bedtime and another episode. ~D

The TV series was a very good adaptation. The 'special effects' are a bit...er...dated, but it was still very funny.

You have to be in the right mind set for it. If you're expecting special effects and flash, you'll be let down. You just have to sit back and let the show amuse you with its charm.

All I wanted was a story. The whole thing could be acted out in a paper bag as far as I care, I just want it to be a true representation of Adams's book. So far - so good.

I completely agree with you. The special effects are irrelevant when compared to the quality of the adaptation and the humour.

I didn't know a DVD could start a thread.

Curiouser and curiouser.
