I know that excommunication ends with the death of either the Pope or the excom King. What about excom warnings? Do they expire as well?

I thought that the warning was the 10 years of not attacking that faction. After the 10 is up, you can attack again, although you will probably get warned again.

What I mean is that the Pope (or the King) dies within that 10 years.

The 10 years still remains valid even with death of king/pope as far as ive found.

That figures. Death of the King or the Pope only ever solves the excommunication situation.
It might pay to have an emissary, or better still a priest, stay close to the pope and keep an eye on his age, so that you know when you time your forays into fellow-Catholic-held territory - like when the pope is into his seventies.
Get what you want, take the inevitable excom hit if events unexpectedly drag out beyond the first two years and hope that he snuffs it soon afterwards. By the time the ten-year limit has expired, the successor pope will have advanced in years by a suitable amount to make the next take not too many more decades away...
A similar situation applies if your own king is in his sixties. You have a choice of giving him a dignified semi-retirement or one last blaze of glory, perhaps with the intention of much needed attrition against that intimidating multiple-stack army across the border with no utterly dire consequences if he should get himself killed in the process. Just make sure the heir isn't also involved in this battle.
hey youve got 2 years spam assassins till youve got a decent shot at killing the pope aka over 100% total but if youve got a pope that drinks poison then hey your kinda screwed

As it has been established: it is only worth spamming assassins when you are _already_ excommed otherwise no use...

I always get excommed.
But,I train some assasins, and every time I get excommunicated, I get back to normal because the Pope is in Heaven.
