gmax to 3DS Max conversion

Has anyone had any problems with opening .gmax files in 3DSmax? I'm just getting an error when I try to open the files. I've tried renaming the files to .max. Any tips?

You can't open gmax files directly in 3dsmax. Rather you have to export from gmax into a format and then use an importer in 3dsmax to import the file again.
