TO THIS DATE I HAVE NEVER SEEN A SUPPOSED FLAMING ARROW. I have the VI installed and I have done sieges with archers, yet no arrows. Can someone clear this up for me. I can see their is a FlammingArrows.wav file so what gives?

Is it possible that it refers to the torches that are trown to a sieging army by the defenders?

Flaming arrows are for wooden palisades.

Use archers against fort walls, and you will see flaming arrows.
This can be modded, though. We can make Fire Archers for example, which everytime fire flaming arrows.

Take an archer, fire at the wooden level walls, look at the flaming arrows. Done ~D

Slightly off-topic but in one assault on a wooden fort, I mis-clicked, thinking I'd ordered a bunch of peasant to move to a position inside (ie click on the ground, or drag out a formation), expecting them to march in through the broken gate and then form up. To my surprise, they marched up to the wall (straight-line route-plotting algorithm at work) and they began their 'attacking' animation. I got busy with other goings on but, after a minute or so, I heard a crashing noise and turned to see the wall falling down and my peasants merrily marching in through a BIG hole in the wall.

Just goes to show you don't actually need siege gear to break into the wooden forts... ~D

My siege battles have a nasty tendency to cause the PC to reboot itself so I autocalc most of them now, which is a pity since I've recently put the VI expansion in place and the sieges are supposedly far more deadly on your assaulting troops now. Autocalc seems to let them get off lightly, if you use enough of them.

Post Script: Tried a siege the other day and the PC didn't reboot this time.

I think it was a keep-level castle but its came with a wooden palisade attahed to it. Luckily, there was only one unit defending (MtdSgs) and they were in the outer enclosure, so I didn't have to tackle any inner gates. I had one catapult with me, which I deployed to one side, so it could hit both the stone wall and the stockade, if need be. Whilst it went to work, I thought I'd give these flaming arrows a try.

One unit of Bulgarian Brigands, one wooden wall, only three casualties and probably less than five minutes later, there was a nice second hole with which to send a second unit of cav. I swear they made quicker work of it than the catapult. Took a nice screenie of the smoke trails in mid-flight but probably won't post it here as I guess you've all seen this already.

I have to say that they've used considerable license in terms of the time needed to knock down/burn castle walls but the conventional battles, which ought to take hours, are over in mere minutes (Shogun style) so 'time compression' is something we've got used to anyway.
