View Full Version : Linking weapons properly
hi there,
i swapped some bodyparts from one model to another and there is an error message as soon as i try to export my model. i read something saying that it could have to do with weapons not linked correctly to the bones. ~
how do i link them properly(or check it)?
In 3ds MAx, hit 'h' to show the hierarchy. The weapon should show up as a child object of the hand bone. Soldiers are right handed by default, so any weapon should be attached to that hand.
If the weapon is not linked to the bone ( it must NOT be linked to the mesh ) then the model won't export.
To make life easier when attaching, I always hide teh mesh object first.
When you perform the link, the bone you link the weapon to should highlight itself white briefly to let you know it is done.
I would guess you weapon is either not linked at all, or may be linked to the mesh rather than the bone.

well heres an image of my skinning can anybody find some errors? :embarassed:
all vertices are weighted 1,0 to bone_abs as telled in the tutorial
hmm, try selecting UVW zuweisen in your stack and right clicking 'collapse to'. I don't think you should leave UV mapping in the stack before exporting. It looks right otherwise. If it doesn't work can you post a shot of your schematic view showing object linking.
i just tried this out and i could import the cas file back properly (size 23 k) must implement in game now ! ... thanks a lot hoggy ~:)
