since the world is so corrupt i thought lets test it on membrs. be honest guys
here's the deal.
you're a maior of a town, and the local maffia offers you 1 million if you would get a law through. suppose that if you accept their offer you will succeed and get your money. you are also afraid of the consequences when you turn them off. what will you say?

Thow them in jail, no questions asked and then the next day the will be lined up and shot!

Take their money, throw them in jail and then at dawn the next day have them lined up and shot and then give the money to the towns people.

I'll tell you when someone offers me a million dollars. Then again maybe I won't because I'll be too busy swanking off to the bahamas in my new private jet.

Just say no. If you say yes, then your corrupt. If you ask for more, your doubly corrupt. If you thrown them in gaol, their friends will have you killed. If you take their money, then throw them into gaol, their friends will not only have you killed, but your entire family, your pets, your friends and anyone you've ever known. The mob is like a hydra, cut one head off, another 2 appear.

I'd say no, because then I'd be in their power. Real power is never given, it's taken.

If you say yes, then your corrupt. If you ask for more, your doubly corrupt. Gah! Being corrupt is like being pregnant - either you are or you are not.
And if you are, you might as well go for the jackpot...

I'ld ask Tom DeLay what he would do. That is, how to take the money and not be in their debt. ~D

It depends on what they want me to do. If they want legalized gambling yes, If they want to make guns easier to get yes etc... If they want me to pardon their friend no, if they want me to slice the police budget no etc.

I hate to say this but all the answers indicate some kind of curruption
the first 2 are plain greed
3rd may seem right but since when do mayors decide who gets thrown in jail? thats the job of the police and for a mayor to order it is flaunting the law
4th saying no and doing nothing is neglecting your responsibilty to the people you serve
the correct answer is to say no and tell the correct authrities and let THEM deal with it

the mayor is the head of the police so yeah he decides

first hire new body guards, but don't just throw them in jail, get some spies to see who there family and freinds are and have them assasinated, from the days of spying i would hope you learn where there links are and follow them, killing as you go until you find the root and them have them mercillessly slaughtered.
I wouldn´t even accept miilions. That is moraly wrong... I hate corruption.

I would say no and then hire a few bodyguards and wear a bullet proof vest. You should also have an option for reporting them for attempting to bribe a government official, iirc that is a very serious offense. I would report them after that.

You people don't choose the first option because of one thing you have principally forgotten: any law so bad that it would not be worth you getting 1 million dollars would probably be against the constitution anyway and you as the mayor would not have the power to enforce it.
It isn't corruption. It's common sense.

Shoot them, no one challenges the superiority of Kaiser Capo, no one. And anyone who does, will be treated as a traitor to the Fatherland. I am the boss, not said Mafia leader, who is most likely a Russian Communist Refugee anyway. Death to the traitors! Long live the REVOLUTION!
take the money and leave the country, better to be rich, alive, and avoid a bad conscience for abusing the good people of the town, than to be corrupt or dead.
ichi
ps maybe take out a few mobsters on my way out of town, just to see if I could
