Everybody seems to be conscious of their post count, so I thought I'd put together a little analysis of posts and memberships and forums.

First, some basics

There are currently (August 11, 2005) 11,912 members who have made approx 667,000 posts. That makes the average 55 posts per member (here I use the term member to acocunt for all accounts, from the newest junior member to Tosa and Barocca).

There are

1,410 members who have posted once
1,010 members who have posted twice
1,630 members who have posted three times
450 members who have posted four times
350 members who have posted five times

These 4,850 members have made 11,870 posts.

These members account for 41% of our membership but contributed about 1.8% of the posts.

Jag, with 10,631 posts, or Gawain, with 10,387 posts, each contributed 1.6% of the total posts.

About 100 members (less than 1% of the total membership) account for more than half of the total posts.

OK, so where do we post.

82,500 in the Entrance Hall and Guides Section
95,629 in Rome
147,236 in MTW
52,191 in Shogun
461 in Spartan
130,651 in the Tavern (front and back)
22,800 in the Apothecary
42,800 in the Mods

So more posts have been made about the games than about off-topic stuff. Rome has surpassed Shogun (by a lot) but still less than MTW.

Spartan activity is minimal, but could soon be a big area of interest as a totally new group discovers the Org.

There are about 36,637 posts in the MP forums, most of those in MTW, or about 5.5% of the total posts. This surprised me, cause the MP forums usually seem very very quiet. Of course a lot of those posts were from the MTW and STW salad days. There have been no posts in the Barracks in the last week, its been 3-4 days since anyone posted in the Shoggie MP forum.

Modifications seem to be quite active, and we spend a lot of time helping people work the bugs out of their comps.

For what it's worth

Can you guys see the guest view counts? Be interesting to see how many guest views there are compared to member views. What percentage of .Org traffic is caused by lurkers?

That would assume console gamers are capable of typing a conversation! Seriously, I doubt that forum will ever really take off.

So the average org member has made 56 posts. That makes me nearly 20 times better than the average member - which is of course true ~:)

"3,728 accounts completed the registration process, and have visited more than once, but never posted. The "Lurker community".

We daily have over 200 unregistered guest visits also lurking, i.e. reading content without comment.

Are those 3,728 included in the 11,912 count of members (since they finished the registration)? If so, 31% of members never posted?!?! Not even the Entrance Hall? That's an amazing stat.

I was more curious about the unregistered lurkers, mainly since I was one. :embarassed: Of course, those counts would include views without logging in, so I guess it would be kind of meaningless.

So-called 'lurkers' (readers) comprise a significant part of the population of Org daily visitors. Hence my continuous emphasis on making our content accessable, and palatable to that broader community. Org is much more than the 4 dozen or so regular posters in the Tavern's two rooms (no disrespect to those folks; we serve them too).

Yes; the 3,700+ is included in the 11,000+ membership number. Some unknown number of them are duplicate accounts of members with post counts.

Ahhh...one of the two eternal conflicts in the gaming universe:

Console vs. PC

Simulation vs Arcade (sometimes known as Realism vs. Gameplay)

Will the t'wain ever meet?

And that forum will take off, even if ichi, Gregoshi and I have to spam a hundred posts a day to make it so. ~D

449 members who have posted four times
351 members who have posted five times

Interesting info, even for one who usually lusks - as you can tell from the post count.

First spam post . . . :help:

I would have thought that the Tavern would have more than the MTW forum, probably because I spend more time here than in the MTW forum.

oh damned (can i say damn?) JAG and Gawain ar very guilty....how much percent do i have, i suck at math.

Well I've had my post count reset to 0 at least once before... take that into account.

ichi

And that's a good point Efrem , there are lots of confounding issues to deal with here.

There are members who have more than one account, many accounts have been deleted, as have many posts, there are duplicate posts, and the board has moved several times since it started.

But none of that matters, its just a fun exercise to show how many people are doing what.

One last time, postcount really doesnt matter, its the quality of the posts. Even the lurkers are important.

Guilty of what?

Lets just say next time Tosa has to upgrade the server he will send the bill to you ~D

Earlier this year Tosa deleted 200k posts so that has to be added to the
667,000 (all deleted posts were from backroom IIRC)

Your former account was Efrem Da King. I recall you had some issues with the password after the move and finally started using Efrem.
