KOA how can you expect that site to be non biased that clinton gun ban almost put them out of buisness they took a hard hit from that :embarassed: Alot of my local gun shops were also hurt from that ban.

Not making fun of your thread, but that wasnt a very good choice for info. I think we shouldnt post articles that are obviously biased. Yours was just the first one that came to mind, since i havent been in the backroom much of late.

edit to your edit- I wouldnt expect that site to be non-biased, i just dont think biased articles like that need to be posted. Surely if it is a legitamate point one can find a more suitable article.

Just venting a little. There's precious little going on in the backroom these days except bickering. It seems like most people are afraid their post won't get responded to unless they make it controversial in some way. Usually they either exaggerate, use excessive sarcasm, or broad sweeping insults of the political groups they disagree with. All within the forum rules of course but it results in very low quality.

Funny really, as the posts that really get the most attention, if not the most replies, are the well thought out, reasonable, well written ones.


I made up my own thread names because I didn't want to point fingers. I haven't seen any Bush bashing lately but if I had I would have mentioned it.

I'm sorry if I wasn't clear. I did not mean it for an accusation of all conservatives. I was commenting on a trend of starting threads with the purpos e of bashing the left, or bashing them within other threads, instead of civil political discussion.

i don't think that the clinton thread is a fair one. i don't think that the one about the clinton admin dropping the ball on disarming potential 9-11 terrorists is fair either. i do think that it is absurd to criticize the posters for simply posting these articles

look at JAG's posts, for one example of the other side doing something very similar

i enjoy reading those, too - it reminds me of how strongly i have to fight against absurd notions that are strongly believed by a growing number of people - and the sick part is that they are not even illogical. opposing arguments, even propaganda, need to be seen before one can argue against them. know the enemy, baby cries-a-lot; you're in big boy college now

You might want to ask why some of the left-wing heavyweights stopped posting when the main moderator of the Traven was A.Saturnus, while I disagreed with a lot of his moderation style - he was far from showing baised in favor to the right-wing posters.

Its a primarily a case of their over use of demonizing language and getting themselves in trouble with the moderators of the forum - not some right-wing conspricary (SP) to take over the .org. Many right-wing conservatives have also gotten themselves in the same type of trouble. The difference is they stuck around - while some of the more aggressive Left-wing posters left.

edit- what is making me upset is people here all making a big deal about being a lefty or a righty. I really dont think the org can be classified so simply. I dont doubt you but you are not everyone. If I had made such a post I would have said I was sorry and wrong for not including conservatives. I still though would not have gotten off with this apology. They would say we knew what you meant. You just hate liberals. Well for the most part I do hate their ideas but I dont hate anybody. It just so happens that at the moment the tavern has many conservatives posting. It certainly wasnt that way when I first got here. I was appalled. Their are still plenty od great liberal posters here but I think what this demonstrates is at the moment either through sheer numbers or the fact that their correct has conservatives dominating at the moment. I quite agree with the gist of the thread, though clearly the original post was typed in some agitation.

The atmosphere here in the Backroom is not one of healthy debate but of poison. Threads are often deliberately imflammatory and too quickly dissolve into off-topic rants, name-calling and pettiness. Hardly ever does someone say "yes mate, on second thoughts you have a point" so how effective are the arguments on display?

Even when there are attempts at apologies, retractions and reconciliation they are shot down in flames. Often accompanied by a sense of smugness and the scoring of cheap and irrelevant political or personal points. This can be clearly seen in this very thread - just look at DevDave's post as a prime example.

If I wasn't an insomniac I wouldn't even bother......

After reading literally hundreds and hundreds of threads that were designed specifically to provoke/bash/piss off the conservatives in my time as the Backroom moderator, I have never uttered one word to the left wing to stop with it; this is hilarious.

I'm not sure what your local attornies are like, but I could give you a few numbers of folks locally who would take up your cause and file suit on your behalf -- though they would likely include your emergency room physician and local police in the suit in order to get some "deeper pockets." ~:)

Know what bothers me about this entire exchange here? It is a micrcocosm of everything that is wrong at the Org. Self-righteous people are treating other self-righteous people without any degree of civility. Rather than disagreement with an idea, the people behind the ideas are being attacked. This isn't acceptable. That all of you people have for so long been given such free reign in your treatment of others in no way validates your disrespectful conduct towards others.

I care nothing for claims of hypocracy. To the extent to which both sides resemble squawling toddlers pointing fingers at one another over who started it, I do not care. I am unmoved by all talk of African-American pots and kettles (though I might have a few suggestions about where to place these). The only thing that matters here is that every poster here has a choice in how they treat their peers. THat choice is still there regardless of how much abuse you have been subjected to, how correct you feel yourself to be, or how much of an idiot anyone else is. For the sake of being able to call oneself the better person, I should think that we all could stand to exercise some restraint in posting.

P.S: One might ask by what right do I post any sort of directive. Recently I saw a call go out for creating a more civil atmosphere at the Org. That call included a mandate to confront disrespectful behavior politely but firmly. This places upon my shoulders a shared responsibilty for the overall tone of debate in this forum and on this site. What before was implied can now be considered to be explicit. Any moderator who points out rules violations should be treated with respect and not as an interloper regardless of jurisdiction. If someone exceeds their mandate, believe me when I say that you'll know about it.

P.S.S: If I were to state a personal opinion on the subject matter, I would say that Sasaki appears to just be frustrated. Couldn't the same be applied to us at some time or another? Cut him some slack. (Credit to Gawain for mostly making this same point earlier. While I'm crediting Gawain, I'll give some out for mostly being constructive in this thread.)
