Many of us know that there is almost nothing nicer than relaxing on a hot day with an iced beverage. It refreshes you and may make yourself feel cooler in the process.

However, other people believe that hot beverages are the drink of choice for a sweltering day. Why? The idea that drinking a hot beverage will make the overall body temperate rise, giving the temperature of the environment a lesser effect; in addition to heat having a relaxing, releasing effect on the body's pores/capillaries to disipate heat faster.

What is your mentality and why? I don't know everything about the subject, but being both an avid coffee and beer drinker I would like to know the pros and cons thereof. :balloon2:

edit - this is awesome. A sweet question poll for my 2.500 mark post. :2thumbsup:

the colder the better. on hot days i usually end up doing something physical, yard work, riding my bike, basketball, etc. so my body temp rises anyway. then i come inside and i feel that much hotter. so i try to drink things that are colder than the frozen depths of space itself.

i only like warm drinks in the bleakest stretches of the dark northern winters.

My vote would go to cool drinks , there's nothing better than iced water after an intense game of soccer.

I like my cocoa hot, my milk semi-cold, and my water room temperature. All year round. If the water is too cold it hurts your mouth and you can't drink enough.

I've heard that hot drink theroy before, from someone in the know about bodily functions. However I have to say that during a hot day theres nothing better than a nice cold one.

I don't know whether that should count as a "I only drink alchol" answer, because being english I also drink Tea, which is a hot drink.

Gah. I'm gonna vote cold.

As stated by edyzmedieval: Cold drink, hot girl.

Why on earth would anyone think of having hot drinks on a hot day? Super-strange...

A mocha followed by ice cold water.

EDIT: NEARLY ice cold water. Ice cold water being, in fact, ice.

EDIT: NEARLY ice cold water. Ice cold water being, in fact, ice.properly, ice water is 0 degrees celsius (both the ice and the water), so ice water is indeed ice cold (since ice can also be 0 degrees celsius).

All the guys I work with drink water at whatever temperature the temperature is outdoors. When it's 30 degrees, and you're sweating to death and working very hard, you don't want to chug ice water. It can screw you up and often gives you a sore throat. Most of the guys drink about a gallon a day at work.

As for coffee, it's never too hot for coffee. Never! +30, -30, couldn't care less. Four or five cups a day always.

Cold drinks, especially ice cold ones.

For some reason I never like to drink cold drinks, even in winter. :dizzy2:

Room temperature water at work in the morning, followed by nice cold (kinda stolen) water cooler water in the afternoon for my walk home. Other than that tap water is generally cold enough.

Never hot drinks in the summer, although they are great when the snow rolls in.

I don't really steal it, but it is at the college for a program and the program directore might not approve, though he doesn't know so it doesn't matter.

I couldn't have said it better myself. I wonder if it's a Canadian thing.

but a nice beer always hits the spot on the hot ones, though I likely will have a mug of coffee at the go as well.

Cold for me. Drinking hot drinks, while it may be scientifically sound, just feels...wrong.
