I play Seleucid campaign (hard/medium). I conquered Egypt, and Pontus, Armenia and Parthia are allied against me. After beating few armies of Pontus, I menaged to make them my protectorate. All of a sudden, I am at peace with Armenia Parthia and (non-existing) Egypt ~
In next turn I attacked Armenia, and Pontus broke alliance/protectorate. I thought that the protectorate will last longer than one turn :embarassed:

Also, I noticed that when I try to exchange the map information with my ally/protectorate, the alliance is always broken. Bugs?

1.What version of the game do you play?
2.When you are at war with several allied faction and make a peace treary with one of them, others will automaticly become at peace with you, as well.
As for Egypt, IMO it is somekind of bug, or maybe it was destroyed in the turn you allied with Pontus.

If you make a faction a protectorate you go to peace with all their allies.

I'm sure there's some good info hidden in this (https://forums.totalwar.org/vb/showthread.php?t=39287) thread too.

...but what really pisses me off is that if you make faction A a protectorate and you´re at war with faction B. Faction B has only to send a diplo to faction A and become allies then YOUR war is over???!!! How the h_ll can a protectorate dictate to its masters when, where and who to be at war with?
It really sad the the diplomatic function, that could have made this game great, is such a shambles and doesn´t work at all. IMHO it should be removed completely from the game.

1. I'm playing 1.2 RTW
2. No, I destroyed Egypt at least 10 turns before I allied with Pontus. And it's not the first time that I make peace with destroyed faction. It looks like that the diplomacy engine doesn't keep track of what faction is destroyed...

At least THAT ally won't betray you. ~

They broke protectorate? I´ve never experienced that one, even if I went to war with one allied to my protectorate. I got a message saying I broke my treaty with this faction, but on diplomacy screen the protectorate status remained, as did the cash flow.
Why factions sometimes become protectorates and sometimes not is still beyond me, however. I made myself protector of Parthia very early in my Seleucid game, while they still were pretty big and powerful. However, later on, when I was ruling supreme, being the by far mightiest power around, Pontus, Greece, Armenia and Egypt all refused to become protectorates, even if they were down to their last city with only peasants and the faction leader defending it ~ I even offered giving them back all their lands I had conquered, still they valued their freedom a bit too much.

It seams that when they are cornered to a last line of defence, they become desperate and refuse to negotiate. Not very realistic, is it?
