How slow battle game speed?

I'm new to RTW and find the normal speed mode way to fast to be able to control my 20 groups of men against horse elephant assaults.
Is there a way to halve the speed?

Also, how do I spread out my front line troops in a wide line instead of those square clumps with gaps in between?

Its hard to change unit speed as I think you need to change the animations as well. If you want to change the fighting speed though, this also helps make battles easier to control, you just need to change unit stats, increase the defence and lower the attack. To do that go to data/export_descr_unit. It explains itself from then on.

As for setting troops up in a line, all you need to do is right click and drag. I think you have to do it individually for each unit though.

You can also adjust the settings in descr_battle_map_movement_modifiers.txt though the animations will run at the same pace, so the troops will appear to be sliding/moonwalking.
